28 Oct 05 - 03:59 AM (#1592314) Subject: RE: BS: The name of a film? From: Dave Masterson It was called Belleville Rendezvous in the UK - fantastic film. I particularly liked the way the French mafia drove around in stretch 2CV's! For me the film also caught to a tee the single-mindedness, and sheer physical effort, of the racing cyclist. |

From: GUEST,Mrr OK, here is another one: it had Charles Laughton with amazing eyebrows as a madman, there were people trying to wreck a ship and being foiled by the woman who was then kidnapped by the insane Laughton, who ends up throwing himself from the rigging of another ship? Old movie, of course, black & white... |

From: Tannywheeler Jamaica Inn, with a very young O'Hara (who played wife to John Wayne a number of times); made in the '30s; based on a famous novel; Laughton played a local magistrate/minor nobleman who was the "fence" for a cause-a-shipwreck-steal-the-cargoandeverythingelse-and-sell-it gang on the coast of Cornwall (I think--that western-reaching penninsula that's the south edge of Britain). Lots of racing around at night in high winds and dark shadows.... Tw |

The Triplets of Belleville seemed a bit odd to me. Maybe it was that the cyclists seemed to be autistic. Try Tokyo Godfathers for a really good story and animation. |
