07 Nov 05 - 11:56 PM (#1599765) Subject: Lyr Add: MILORD (Moustaki, Mannot) From: Q (Frank Staplin) Milord Paroles (Words): Georges Moustaki. Music, Marguerite Mannot. 1959. The first verse is sung again after the second verse. There is a spoken section at the end- Allez venez! Bravo! Milord... Encore, Milord... Ta da da da... Paroles.net http://www.paroles.net/chansons/18406.htm |

Here's an English version: Milord Come on Milord, sit down at my table It's cold outside I know you very well but you never saw me I'm just a girl of the harbour, a shadow in the street I met you yesterday with your girl, a beautiful girl With soft eyes but no heart Today her ship sailed away with her, for always And now you are alone, too bad, she didn't love you Oh, come on Milord, sit down at my table It's cold outside Look at me Milord, you never saw me But what happens, Milord? You cry! I'd never have believed it Oh, come on Milord, smile at me Sing with me, dance with me Bravo, Milord! Encore Milord! I've heard this song in its native language a zillion times but, not being a French speaker, never knew what it was about. Now it's twice as powerful. Muchas gracias, old buddy - |
22 Sep 08 - 01:29 AM (#2447015) Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Milord (Edith Piaf) From: Genie Thanks to all you guys, for posting the lyrics and the link to the YouTube. I've been a Piaf fan since about 1962 and this has been one of my favorites of her songs. But even though I studied French for two years in college (not the immersion type program that's used more now), I've been mis-hearing some of those lyrics for decades and just plain not knowing what to make of some of the others. I was able grasp the basic story, but I think I understood only about 25% of the actual lyrics, especially in the slower and spoken parts. It's nice to have the actual lyrics. Reading them while I watch Édith sing the song herself should help refresh my skills en Français. Merci beaucoup! Genie |
