I can't locate the words anywhere. Sorry. Unless someone posts them, you may have to track down the CD it's on.

According to Allmusic.com, The Fureys' recording of LEAVES IN THE WIND is on 2 of their albums: "Through the Eyes of an Irishman" (1998) and "May We All Meet Again" (2001).

I haven't heard those, but I heard this. I don't know who wrote it, and I'm not sure it's the same song:

LEAVES IN THE WIND
As sung by Isla Grant on "By Request" (2006)

Memories are all that you have left me.
No more I'll see the love shine in your eyes;
And the tender words you spoke to me so softly
Are as far away as the stars up in the skies.

CHORUS: You're far away from me and I'm so lonely.
Since you left, I'm slowly losing my mind.
It seems like only yesterday I had you with me.
Now you're gone, like leaves in the wind.

How I wish I'd told you all that you have meant to me,
And how much my world revolved around you.
How I hope and pray that where you are you'd hear me now
For without you I don't know what I'll do. CHORUS

Now you are gone, just like leaves in the wind.

I finally found the correct song. (By the way, there are lots of other songs and instrumental pieces with the same title, but I found only one recording of this song.) Here is a first draft of a transcription; it needs some gaps filled in.

I find it disconcerting how the point of view keeps shifting from "we" to "they" and back again. Does the narrator belong to the group he sings about, or not? I recommend, whoever wants to sing this should find a way to make it consistent.

LEAVES IN THE WIND
As sung by the Fureys on "May We All Someday Meet Again" (2013)

My father's fathers told him, and he in turn told me
About the time they worked the land in another century,
Of the day those … they couldn't find the rent.
The bailiffs came and … to the highways they were sent.

We were leaves in the wind; we were scattered down the road.
We were leaves in the wind; we begged for food; sometimes we stole.

Our women walked the byways and … what they could bring.
The men found skill in their fingertips, a living out of tin.

We were leaves in the wind; we watched the trees grown bare.
We were leaves in the wind; we shook the brush out of our hair.

Their eyes were long unseeing(?) how well the hazel bent,
And he used it as a handy frame to build a sheltered tent.

We were leaves in the wind; we heard the owl; we saw the lark.
We were leaves in the wind; we sang round campfires in the dark.

They gathered near for company; together they weren't alone,
And in front of any stranger, they talked the language of their own.

We were leaves in the wind; we jockeyed ponies at the fair.
We were leaves in the wind; we trapped the rabbit and the hare.

I think about them sometimes, walking in the town,
Of lives that were linked together before mine came around.
They were the travelin' people, just struggling to survive.
And the names the … gave us, and take away my pride.

We were leaves in the wind; we heard the owl; we saw the lark.
We were leaves in the wind; we danced round campfires in the dark.
We were leaves in the wind; we heard the owl; we saw the lark.
We were leaves in the wind; we danced round campfires in the dark.

Leaves In The Wind Song Lyrics And Guitar Chords
Leaves in the wind By Johnny McEvoy. 4/4/ timing.

The chords were worked out by Marc. This song was also covered by singer / songwriter Isla Grant [ lyrics ] .

[D]Old Rosie Atkinson live all alone
In her [A]house at the end of our [D]street
She wears an old hat with a long silver pin
And [A]faded blue shoes on her [D]feet
And a [A]long flowery dress that [D]must have looked nice
On the [A]day her love marched a[D]way
To fight in the war- to end all the wars
In a [A]cold land so [A7]far, far a[D]way

Chorus
[G]Rosie, he’s gone now, he’s [D]not coming home now
[A]Like all those lonely young [D]men
The [G]fathers and brothers, the [D]sons and the lovers
They’ve [E]fallen like leaves in the [A]wind

Now the [D]war has long passed, he never returned
The [A]years have now faded her [D]eyes
But the love in her heart is as warm and as strong
As it [A]was when he made her his [D]bride.
[A]In Flanders’ fields where [D]red poppies grow
From the [A]hearts of many young [D]men
There sleeps Rosie’s lover of long, long ago
She [A]never did [A7]see him a[D]gain

Chorus

Now [D]old Rosie Atkinson lives all alone
In her [A]house at the end of our [D]street
And the children make fun of her long flowery dress
And the [A]faded blue shoes on her [D]feet
Thought they [A]laugh and the jibe at her [D]funny old ways
She [A]seems not to hear, not to [D]see
She just dreams of the love she was never to know
And the [A]times that were [A7]never to [D]be

Chorus
[A]Leaves in the [D]wind
Repeat Intro
