alternatives to Cool Edit?

can someone suggest a way to get an alternative to Cool Edit. I left my cool edit on the last computer and now I am bereft.

My trial on adobe audition, which has taken over syntrillium has just ran out and now they seem to want 200 quid - which seems slightly over the top.

i don't keep up with these things.

any ideas gratefully received

al

There are cheaper programs, but in the end they are cheaper programs and do not have the functionality that Cool Edit (and now Adobe) has. Cool Edit was developed as an alternative to professional programs like ProTools, and in fact Cool Edit has been adopted by others. I guess it depends on what your needs are.

Another program that people swear by is SoundForge, but I've found it to be a bit cumbersome and not as flexible as Cool Edit - although I do not have that much experience with SoundForge.

If you had Cool Edit, I believe you can can an update cheaper (I'm not sure how much a "quid" is.)

if you can provide proof of who you are, some companies will re-send the code for registering the program. I got a couple back with no hassle when I had a HD crash a few years ago...(all it took in that case was the correct name it was registered under, and the email not being changed.)

Clinton's way is 'possible', but has a bit of a learning curve, I hear...*grin*

I tried Cool Edit but settled on Voyetra Record Producer Deluxe. You can obtain a trial version on the Voyetra website ... to buy it's only around $60. u.s. (well worth the price).

well strangely enough, thats what got me started, I had purchased a dowloaded cool edit with all the bells and whistles from Syntrillium and i I submitted my code to download agin for my new computer and they diverted me to Adobe.

But I'd be interested in a free download of Cool Edit, if you know a place - it never occurred to me to put freedownload of cool edit into Google, and see what came up.

too dumb to live that's my problem!

Wee - I would write to Adobe to see if they can help you. Some of the free downloads might be different versions without all the bells and whistles. Adobe might be able to either get you the same version you have, or get you the upgrade at a reasonable price.   The upgrade version is only $69 U.S.

You won't find the good freebies through Google....

Try bit-torrents or eMule....

Or ghost around for good FTP servers....

Thanks once again for more suggestions.

do you know the site where the 69 dollar download lurks? I would have bought that like a shot this morning. Adobe seemeed to want 300 dollars - which is lot of money for something with no strings!

actually I'll wait and see what this ten quid thing is. I ordered it straightaway.

You could try Goldwave - $48. You can download a trial version off the site.

Go to the Adobe website and the Adobe Audition page. There is a tab for "upgrade".

... also it depends on which version of Cool Edit that you have. The upgrade could be $169 for an upgrade from the stripped down version of Cool Edit.

There is a free shareware (I think that is what it is called) program called Audacity---you can Google it for the website. I don't know how it compares to Cool Edit. I downloaded it a while back but found to to be a bit cumbersome but quite functional.

I use a free, open source program called Audacity. So far, there's nothing I did with Cool Edit that I can't do just as easily with Audacity.

This http://www.delback.co.uk/lp-cdr.htm#record is a site that has a lot of useful information as well as a program which you can download and try out for a month before paying a reasonable price for it.

errrmm.. if you've already got the time limited demo installed..

all it takes is 5 minutes googling of certain 'key' words,
and voila!!!

one brief download later..

no more time limit!!!!!
