Join us for Portland FolkMusic Society's (formerly Portland Folklore Society)22nd Annual Singtime Frolics, a weekend camp for singers and musicians of all ages & abilities, March 24, 25, 26, 2006.

Enjoy homemade music: song circles, formal & informal workshops, and camaraderie in the foothills of the Oregon Cascades. Come relax, sing, and dance in a comfortable, spacious lodge and cabins in a beautiful
wooded setting at Camp Adams, a 45 minute drive SE of Portland, near Mollala.

This year's guest artist is Portland's own Marie Schumacher, vocal musician and director.

She leads PDX Vox, an a cappella choral group and singing classroom
specializing in contemporary pop music.

Marie will teach a collection of pop songs for SATB, including some of her own arrangements, in a two hour workshop on Saturday morning.

For Singtime details and a flyer containing a registration form, see http://www.portlandfolklore.org/singtime.html.

Thanks, Steve, for posting this announcement.

To all singers in the Pacific Northwest, this is a great singing weekend with the possibilities of singing in large groups or splitting off into small groups or sharing songs with one other person. The singing often lasts until past 2:00 AM with all sorts of singing styles represented from sean nos to shanties, from blues to broadway. A number of good songwriters usually attend, including Zeke Hoskins and Flip Breskin. Singers have come from as far away as Vancouver, BC and San Francisco.

And there will be a number of 'catters there, too. Blessings Barbara and Genie are always there, Thomas the Rhymer, Francie, and Mudjack have attended, and I'm probably forgetting (or ignorant of) others--no slight intended.

More information and the application form can be downloaded at the PFS website.

I hope to see a bunch of you there!

Cheers,

David

Some of you 'catters who were at Sunny Camp would enjoy Singtime, I'm sure. Any of you planning to attend? With more than 100 attendees there's a great variety of singing styles and song genres.

Hope to see some of you.

Cheers,

David

I'm going to try to make it this year, with Shayna. I was at the first Singtime Frolics, and the, what, 14th? in 2000, and I'm trying to shorten the interval. Can't make any promises--it partly depends on the new important person in my life, whose schedule is much tighter than mine. (Not a singer but enjoys listening.) At least this time I won't have to cross an ocean to get there...

Aloha,
Mark

Hey Mark, Glad to hear you might be there! Hope you can make it with your sweetie. I'd love to hear your old songs--and your new songs, too--and to sing Brandywine with you (if you're not too sick of singing it again and again--we just don't hear it enough here.)

Glad to hear you'll be there too, Genie.

Cheers,

David

Lee wants to come, too, with her various woodwinds, David.

Look forward to seeing you there.

And especially you, Mark, since "oceans braid twixt us hae roared" for a "lang" time (to quote Robbie Burns).    Glad you hope to be there.
