From: GUEST,inept emailer I am attempting to send an emailed party announcement to about 20 different people, using outlook express, and I want their various addresses not to show (since some want to keep their email address private)...but to just all appear as "undisclosed-recipients". Can't seem to do it for some reason. What is the proper procedure in Outlook Express to do that? |

In OE, usually if you pull up your address book and select a name, the option will appear for "where to put it," and with default settings should include Addressee (To), CC (Copy), and BCC (blind copy), but if you've made changes to your setup you may need to set a "show all" in the View menu. In formal letter writing, it's (was) considered polite to include a CC: list if copies are sent to someone other than the main addressee, so that everyone knows who knows and all the lies can be kept straight. A BCC is someone to whom you send a copy without telling the addressee that "HE/SHE knows." Some people used to insist that you should include, along with the CC: list a "BCC:" notation with no names listed, but that would seem to be more a scare tactic than useful. Note: Some email accounts (free Hotmail in particular), as a "SPAM preventive," may "freeze your account" if you send the same message to many people. The stated limit for Hotmail free accounts is 10 addressees - or at least was a couple of months ago. It's usually a 24-hour lock, after which you can send the next 10. If you haven't tried a "mass mailing" to confirm that your ISP allows it, it would be well to allow plenty of time to dribble them out, until you've confirmed that they'll let your mailing list will go through on the first try. From: JohnInKansas inept - You can put your email addy in the to box since anyone who receives mail from you has your email address (so they can reply). You're not revealing anything that isn't already part of sending email. By using your own address, and hiding everyone else's you don't give the email addresses of everyone on your mailing list to everyone on your mailing list. You will get a copy in your "Sent Mail" box, and another copy in your Inbox, so remember to clear both of them when you're ready to get rid of the transaction. John |

If I actually had a physical human being here to help me who understood the situation, I could have solved this matter in probably about 10 seconds. Ever compared a written manual of guitar technique to a live demonstration of same? Why do we have music teachers? Why doesn't everyone just RTFM? |

He can use the first one on himself, and then see if he can sell the rest to the CIA. I'm sure they have a use for such things in their overseas secret bases. Maybe they even have a use for Clinton... although...probably not. |

See the "help" files of your email client. If you are too lazy to read them, ask for advice on a real technical support forum. They will probably tell you to fuck off and read the manual, of course.
