Martin C-18 Value

Herself has an elderly aunt who owns a c.1966 Martin 00-C-18 that she can no longer play. She was once a music teacher and is now living on Social Security. The guitar is in good condition, with no significant scratches or dings. Jenn wants to give her a fair price for it, as much to get some cash into her hands as anything else. I've looked on e-bay and the Elderly Instruments web site so I have some clues on what the "retail" price would be, but please give me some ideas on what you'd expect to get if you had such an instrument and sold it.

Are you sure this is not a "00 18 C"? The "OO" is a relatively small "parlor" guitar and is worth much less than the dreadnaughts. The "C" means "classical" or nylon string. Retail as a "OO- 18 C made in 1966" is about $600.

Art, I believe you can get an on line appraisal from George Gruhn at Gruhn Guitars. It might cost you a few bucks but he is widely regarded as one of the best authorities on vintage guitars around.vl

What pdq said. A "C" in the middle of a Martin model means "cutaway". So, a 00C-18 would be a cutaway model of a 00-18 which I doubt Martin would have made in '66 unless it was by very special order. It would be a rare beastie indeed. The "C" after the model number means "classical" which is probably what Auntie has.

Thanks...that sounds good to me. Jenn says she's pretty sure its a classical guitar, although she's only seen it once and never really played it.
