Can anyone help with the author of " We Were Strolling Along On Moonlight Bay".
I've done all the usual searches and can find the lyrics but not the composer. I need to credit the aurhor a a cassette insert.
Thanks in anticipation Baz.

Izzat you, Baz??
Words were by Edward Madden and music by Percy Wenrich, 1912. In one fakebook I have, Hal Leonard claims a copyright. In another, it's said to be held by CPP/Belwin. Seems to me it must be in the public domain, but I guess it's best to check the BMI and ASCAP sites above.

Joe, yes it's me
Thanks for the info and to who ever the kind person was that posted the two links. They look really useful. My problem has been that our local radio station came to record us last Saturday and have given us a tape. The Landlord of the Inn wants to sell it over the bar and he's asked me to produce the insert. We had a couple of guest singers drop by and I'm not familiar with the composers of the songs they did. However, you've managed to solve one for me so I'm grateful.
Regards Baz

As in,

We were sailing along on moonlight bay......???

was sung by Doris Day and Gordon McCrae in the film with the same title as the song....... if this is the one you're looking for I'll go check out International lyrics server... it used to have a musicals section (or was that Jen's lyrics?.......)

Moonlight Bay
Words by Edward Madden (1912)
Music by Percy Wenrich

Voices hum, crooning over Moonlight Bay,
Banjos strum, tuning while the moonbeams play.
All alone, unknown they find me
Memories like these remind me
Of the girl I left behind me,
Down on Moonlight Bay

Chorus:
We were sailing along, on Moonlight Bay,
We could hear the voices ringing,
They seemed to say,
"You have stolen her heart,
Now don't go 'way."
As we sang Love's Old Sweet Song,
On Moonlight Bay.
Candle lights gleaming on the silent shore;
Lonely nights, dreaming till we meet once more.
Far apart, her heart is yearning
With a sigh for my returning,
With the light of love still burning,
As in days of yore.
Chorus

The tune for the verse is quite different, Rasta. I'll post a MIDI tomorrow, if I get the time. Click on my name and e-mail me if you'd like me to send you a MIDI direct (if your e-mail is set up to take attachments).

Clip at YouTube of the Premier Quartet, featuring Billy Murray, from 1913 (a year after the song was originally published). They don't do the second verse, however.
