Then music until...

I suspect this will be a quiet, intimate affair for those recovering from St. Patrick's Day. The furniture has finally all been put back in some semblance of order.
So - who's in? Who needs a bed?

Tami has been outed as the instigation for rear seat lobster throws. She's in big trouble and her birthday is March 21!

Who else?
Tom and Linn?

Tom and Linn. Need a bed. Will bring rum cake that didn't get baked last time because of power outage. Unless, of course, Mother Nature strikes again.

Ye gods! Right now I'm too tired to type!

Later,

It's Spring. I though I had a cold, but it' snot. It's my Spring allergies. It's Sprallergies. It's gweebazoids up the nose season. It's the time of sneezing and f'ck'd up sinuses and mucoid hell. I'll try to make it, but I can't promise. If somebody gets dibs on the beds first, I understand.

We've just got back from the jollifications and can report that the merriment was stil going on when we left.

It was a very good evening with lots of lovely gifts for Tami's birthday. Mary managed to light the cake candles without accident but Linn wasn't fast enough with the camera before they were blown out.

Kendall's voice is coming along by leaps and bounds and he produced some good songs. Mary did a very maudlin song about a cat caught up in the civil war, with sound effects from members of the audience to help it along.

Sounds like a great night was had and is still being had by all Jacqui.
I watched the late local news in case there a report about a call to a cake Fire but when I didn't hear anything I figured that particluar part of your evening went off or should I say went up, without any bother.
I am very glad to hear that Ken Doll's Voice:) is coming back strong and true. That is very good news. The kind I like to retire to my slumbers on:)
Thanks for letting us know how the evening's fun went.
Sleep well when sleep comes.

Yeah, what Sinsull said.

My voice definitely went to bed before I did but Deborah kept urging more songs before the taxi came to whisk her away (around two a.m.)

We did a number on the Laphroaig -- good though.

The entree combination of roast chicken, curried spicy rice and Jacqui's superb roasted veggies was spectacular! But then, probably a good thing I laid down a proper food foundation (two helpings) before pouring Laphroaig (and beer) on top of it.

Lots of interesting songs. I know I did a number that I either haven't sung for quite awhile or haven't entirely learned yet. (Meaning I "bruced it" several times over the course of the evening.) One person's song always seemed to inspire another in the next singer.

Great time!

Linn

Great, fun time! Wonderful music, including a whole spate of risqué/double entendre songs. ("She showed him the bush, he gave her the bird," crustaceans in crappers, etc.) There was silliness, some of it on purpose. You dorypersons would have loved it. Mainly because there was still Screech left. I left kinda late today because it was fun just talking.

Mary, despite me bitching about being frozen, I greatly appreciate your efforts to provide a nice place for me to sleep. I had a down sleeping bag in my car that unzips completely, AND a fuzzy blanket. Brain broke. Brain wouldn't go. A big part of it was that I waited past 'tired' to hit the hay, and I was doomed to icecubeness.

I know I don't say thank you for having these gatherings enough, so THANK YOU!

I'll tell ya - I'm gonna sleep like the vitality-challenged tonight!

I am tired! Too tired to tackle the mess in the kitchen. With any luck at all the sour cream will have wandered off on its own and saved me the trouble of dealing with it.

This Song Circle was a pleasant surprise. I expected a small crowd of ill prepared singers. Instead it was one of those magic evenings when each person seems to dredge out a gem not sung in twenty years. Wow! Jacqui and I managed "This Old House" this afternoon - a fitting end to the festivities.

It was good to have Brian back. And Deborah was in rare form, channeling all the stress of her new job into her music and everyone else's.

Funny Jeri, but when I get the Thank Yous, I can't help but think that I should be thanking all of you. You drive for hours to share yourselves and your music. This house is filled with happy memories, wonderful music, and some wicked humor. Life is very good.

The next "event" will be Ed Trickett's House Concert on May 4. But look for news of a Song Circle at another location in South Portland or Portland.

Sleep well all. I know I and mine will.

Kendall's recitation of the Ruth Moore poem was wonderful - I was particularly impressed with Tom's Poseidon/Neptune bellow. And the Jacqui/Deborah "Show Your Legs To The Country Gentleman" was a treat. Those two are spending way too much time together.I have been cursing Linn since Saturday. The Cannery Shed has formed a repetitious earworm in my subconscious. I am even dreaming Cannery Shed. If Jeri doesn't record "The Wheel Of Time" soon, someone is going to beat her to it. Her songs are too good to be lost. Damn it, Jeri! When?

I'm about to write a parody. If it ever gets onto the folkie charts (somebody in BFE records it on a cheesy tape along with his version of a few show tunes, loses it, it's found by hungry wolves, one of which swallows it, and a guy doing a documentary on wolves finds it in a pile of wolf poop, cleans it off to see what it is, plays 3 seconds of it before flinging it into the trash where a homeless guy looking for leftovers finds it and trades it to a guy for his tunafish sandwich, and the guy turns out to be a folk DJ who is doing a show on "Songs From the Street," and he plays it. Once. But then some guy from Podunk NJ who taped the show records it on a cheesy tape along with his version of Andrew Lloyd Webber's greatest hits, and... ), I want to be the first to get the parody in.

Like, "Oh the wheel of cheese rolls on. You bite off bits until it's gone," or lemme see...rivers, roads, wheels...uh "Oh the helicopter"...no... "Oh the bike of time rolls on. You do just fine 'till you hit the lawn"... Dammit, I'm back to wheels again. I'll work on it.

That was Amos's Munchin song, by the way.

I had nothing to do with Jeri's gift in the eaves. I just wanted that out in the open, as I have been (wrongfully, I might add)accused of helping others to find places to stash Elvis-impersonating lobsters. What caused you to check the eaves anyway, Mary?

I'm listening to the tapes every morning before I get out of bed (transcribing for J-cards) so I'm getting to enjoy the evening all over again. What a wonderful bunch of songs and recitations! I'm most impressed that the vast majority of the selections were ones not sung at the song circle before. I know I trotted out a couple I haven't sung ANYWHERE in ages, and "bruced it" on a few others.

Jeri, what's the name of the poem you did about the guy lost in the snow outside the cabin? Where's it from?

Deborah, your taste is exquisite! Nice bunch of songs to hear again!

All of the material was nice to hear again! I finally (after the first I-don't-know-how-many song circles discovered that this is the ideal place to sing all the stuff I can't sing at The Press Room Friday session or at the sea music singaround.
