BS: The Pointless Thread....

14 Mar 06 - 08:27 PM (#1693858)
Subject: BS: The Pointless Thread....
From: Bobert

Well, I've not had as much time as I'd like to keep up with some of the threads so I was thinking, "Hey, how about a thread that has no central theme, no point but where one can just hang without havin' to take no pop quizes...

... so I figured it was way past time for a "pointless" thread...

Yeah, I'm sure it will drop right to the bottom like a Bush's poll numbers but as long as it does it in a pointless flame of glory then if I die tonight, I will die a happy man...

That is my point, or not...

Heck, Boberdz, the whole place is totally awash in pointless threads. We don't need another one and you will be severely punished for starting this one.

Please send an extremely ugly picture of yourself to Mudcat Central so that it may be enlarged and posted prominently on a billboard near your house with a caption that says "I drank. I posted. I wasted bandwidth!"

Yas...the bandwidth police are presently occupied, so it this falls swiftly off the board then maybe, just maybe, you'll escape their wrath! But, WOE!! unto you if you are caught!!

But, already I see that this thread is as pointless as my missing finger (which I don't not really have a missing finger...but then again, I suppose no one really has a missing finger. I mean, if it it missing...)

My head...it is still spinning like that pair of frilly purple panties!

I spent ten years in the eighties, so I know a bit about them. They lasted from the end of the seventies until the beginning of the nineties. The eighties are also know as "The Mondale Decade", being as how President Mondale dominated the headlines for ten years with his "Women Who Spit" social programs. Of course, reality eventually shook the Mondalian era to its core when it was discovered that Tip O'neil was really an old trollop in disguise.

But the eighties weren't nearly as interseting as the seventies!

Well, khandu is almost correct in saying that the eighties lasted from the end of the seventies until the beginning of the nineties. Most of the eighties did occur at some time during that period, but 1986 did, in fact, occur between 1974 and 1975. I distinctly remember because I took dropped some really good windowpane on New Years Eve of 1974 and before New Years Day of 1975 was over, the entire year of 1986 had flown by. 1986 may have tried to happen again in its more predictable location, between 1985 and 1987, but I was too drunk to notice.

I was tremendously influenced by the music of Tommy Roe. I hated it. My sisters loved it. That musical divide led me to the conclusion that, though my sisters and I share a lot of genetic material, we really have nothing in common. For those of you who love Tommy Roe, here is one of your favorite songs!!! (Click lyrics for your viewing pleasure!)
Sweet Pea (Tommy Roe)

Oh, Sweet Pea
Come on and dance with me
Come on, come on, come on and dance with me
Oh, Sweet Pea
Won't you be my girl
Won't you, won't you, won't you be my girl

I went to a dance just the other night
I saw a girl there she was out of sight
I asked a friend of mine who she could be
He said that her friends just call her Sweet Pea

Oh, Sweet Pea
Come on and dance with me
Come on, come on, come on and dance with me
Oh, Sweet Pea
Won't you be my girl
Won't you, won't you, won't you be my girl

I walked on over and I asked her to dance
Thinkin' maybe later on
We'd be makin' romance
But every guy there was thinkin'like me
I had to stand in line
To get a dance with Sweet Pea

Oh, Sweet Pea
Come on and dance with me
Come on, come on, come on and dance with me
Oh, Sweet Pea
Won't you be my girl
Won't you, won't you, won't you be my girl

I finally got to whisper sweet words in her ear
Convinced her that we oughta get away from there
We took a little walk
I held her close to me
And underneath the stars I said to Sweet Pea

Oh, Sweet Pea I love you can't you see
Love you, love you, love you can't you see
Oh, Sweet Pea
Won't you be my girl
Won't you, won't you, won't you be my girl

I have a confession to make. I did not know until it was mentioned in this thread that "Sheila" was a Tommy Roe song. I do not remember the song at all from "back then". I've since heard it numerous times on oldies radio stations, but they never tell you who performs anything.

Peace is right. It's a decent song. That it would have been performed by the same guy who did "Sweet Pea" and "Dizzy" is odd. It's not worthy of inclusion in "Ripley's Believe it or Not!" or anything, but it is odd.

I have another confession to make. I always got Tommy Roe and Tommy James (of The Shondells) mixed up. They both sucked.

"Who would ever wanna-be Pat Boone???"

That remark was prompted by shoe jealousy, IMO.

What I do remember is the shoes with the thiiiiiick soles & high heels (circa 1973) that made me 6 inches taller! Heck, I stood 6'5" barefoot and I was up there with my "stacks"!

Very good, khan.... You almost made a point and that, ahhhhhh, would have made you ineligible for the Pointless Sweepstakes.... Nice recovery, tho, and you are very much in the running so you just keep sittin' by the phone...

Ahhhhhh, what's with pi anyway? How come it don't repeat itself no matter how long they run it out on a pudder machine??? And I heard that the Devil his-miserable-self owns the patent on pi... But then I also heard that the Devil has purchased all royalties to the song "She wore a pokka dotted itsy-bitsy bakina"...

And while we are skipping merrily thru the pointlass forest, what is it about women???

Pi's repeats numbers all the time. Like, pi to eight decimal places is 3.14159265: that's two 1s and two 5s, or four out of nine (prit near half!)numbers are repeated.

Now, to twenty decimal places it's 3.14159265358979323846, with works out to two 1s, two 2s, four 3's, two 4's, three 5's, two 6's, one 7, two 8's, and three 9's. So you can see that the more decimal places you have the more often the numbers repeat.

I mean, geez, we've only got ten digits from 0 to 9....

bobad is excommunixicated for trying to force a point upon the rest of us. I think he should be severiously shunned and made to watch the complete "My Mother, The Car" box set in one sitting! Then he will realize that there is a point in having no point!

"what is it about women???" Bobertz asked. I will answer with this cryptic conundrumattical egnima...

The answer to the question is "They are just like this thread!"

Last warnin', kanster... Might of fact you and bobad is treadin' on some bo-bad ice...

Ahhhhh, I'm thinkin' that the 3 point line needs to be moved??? But like not in a semicircle but in a meanderin' line that moves every game kinda like movin' the cup on the puttin' green....

In my defence I'd like to make a poi.. er, let me rephrase that, what I mean to say is that the whole poi.. er, the plot of the story, if you remember, is that Oblio was born pointless in the land of Point and because of that he ( and his dog Arrow ) were banished to the pointless forest ( where all things are pointless and nothing is pointed ) where they met all kinds of neat creatures including the pointed man who quickly pointed out that "a point in every direction is the same as no point at all."

Upon his return the townspeople greeted Oblio and Arrow and gave them a hero's welcome. You see, no one ever had been to the Pointless forest, so naturally they wanted to know what was there. Oblio told his story and when he was finished, he stood up and proclaimed, "Since every thing I've seen has a point then I must have one too". Some one in the crowd yelled "He's got a point there." The Count removed Oblio's hat, hoping to quiet the crowd, but revealed (to his astonishmnt) a point on Oblio's head. At that moment, all the points on the tops of the buildings and people began to melt.

So in the end it was all pointless and everyone lived happily ever after.
