Child friendly festivals (UK)

Hi there - we have an 18 month old toddler and are looking for child friendly festivals in the UK over the summer. Many of the festivals around us are in small towns with roads through them. Our main criteria is that the festival should take place on one site, preferably with the camping on site too. There could be kiddie activities too though this is not obligatory since he's always quite happy so long as there are plenty of people around to admire him (already a performer). Cheers F

PS, we already know about Brampton and Cambridge.

Warwick is site based but plenty going on in the town, it is a fabulous festival for children and next to the site is a large leisure park -it really has everythin for every age group.

I echo Linda's comments on Warwick. Excellent with children.
Miskin is another to check out - Easter weekend in a couple of weeks. There is a Mudcat thread on Miskin with contacts and info - check it out.
Quack!

Haven't been for a few years but we found Bromyard Excellent with kids, as it is all on one site.
Miskin is good too, if you are camping you are on site but if you are in a caravan or camper, the site is a few hundred yards up the road, we took it in turns to babysit in the evenings, when they were bigger, but our kids used to sleep through most sessions when that age till the wee small hours under the table!
Cheers Lucy

Stainsby Festival, 14th to 16th July is a green field festival, all self-contained .

It has a website

Bromyard is great for kids as is Bridgenorth (or Shrewsbury as of this year) they both have the Panic Circus & Bromyard have Jan with her blackboard van, I echo Warwick too, they seem to cover all bases!
Unashamed plug coming up, but Mansfield has entertainment for the little ones and is all on one site.

do they have much for the kids at Moor & Coast?

can't quite remember, but they do have the seaside, fish and chips, ice cream etc :-)

I like to go to Moor & Coast for a week, so that my kids can enjoy the beach etc and I get a few days at the festival.

Jan has her blackboard van at Moor & Coast but I'm not sure what else there is for kids, I don't have my own so it's not really something I notice unless it's right in my face (or I'm on the committee!)
But Whitby is a lovely place anyway.

It's tough to find activities for 18 months olds at any event. Most activities for children tend to expect the child to be at least @4 or 5.

Suggest you give Broadstairs Folkweek a thought. 11th - 18th August Loads of activities every day both in the town and at the campsite. Hobby Horse Club, PanicCirus storyTellingto name butacouple.Events all stewarded and really welcoming to children of all ages.
Strongly recomend as several of the people now playing as booked artists there cut their "Folk Teeth" at the childrens events in past years.Last year (2005) it ended up with the children"doing" their version of Pirates ofPenzance with a folk bias
Really can't recomend this one enough.

Aye Man! Aah can recommend Broadstairs for the Bandstand & Campsite kids events - The toon diz gerra bit busy but there is usually a 'ferry' service which feeds down to the main acivities thus avoiding the main streets which can be busy and covered in dog-muck!

Te be honest ye divvent have te leave the campsite if ye divvent want to!

Fareham & Gosport EAster Fest is probably the most children un-friendly festival there is - Absolutely nowt for kids !! Aah should knaa - Aah'm the resident MC

Buenrtood, near Cannock

By the way, on the picure, the diagonal row of vehicles at bottom middle has my old and much missed, Yellow Transit in it!
By the looks, the sliding door looks open so I'm probably in the pic too!
