Pete McGovern - died April 1st 2006

I've just heard about this, and I can't find a previous thread on the matter. Pete wrote " In My Liverpool Home". Back in the 60s, I used to go to his "Washhouse" folkclub in London Road, Liverpool. He was very much a larger than life character.

There was an obituary in the Guardian on 7 April. It said Pete had a good day, watching the football on TV, drank a couple of pints of Guinness and passed away peacefully in his sleep.

Paul Burke (who also used to go to the Washhouse in the 60s) sang "In my Liverpool home" at the Bournemouth folk club last Sunday.

Peter had a "Wake" at Landican Cemetery, on the Wirral, last Thursday.

Followed by a "Scouse Do" at a club, where all his old friends gathered. He was a good man, and will be missed.

At least a part of "Folkscene" on Radio Merseyside, Sunday 16th (7pm) was dedicated to Pete. I missed most of it due to work commitments but I understand you can hear it again on the Radio Merseyside website. This I think is accessed via bbc.co.uk/liverpool

I just checked - it is there and the whole programme would seem to be about Pete

Truly, the pity is that the BBC programme (from a 1997 recording) only dealt with the "Folk Singer" not the man.

Pete was a very good egg, and he was far more than just a writer, of songs, or stories.

He was a good man who had many aspects to him.

There were many people who paid their respects, and he deserved them all.

I still marvel at his performance with the kettle, but there were many more. Rest in peace, a good man.

I seem to remember we booked Pete at the Linotype Folk Club in Altrincham , Cheshire in the early '70s.
As you say, a great guy.
All the good ones are going.

I heard a snippet of mPete singing 'In My LiverpoolHome'. Where can I buy? download? Pete singing? is ther a CD available with the song he recorded at the Everton-Liverpool football match where it was sung before a 30,000 strong crowd - maybe with the Spinners?
