Skipy - is this the Ron Shearman tribute to Victor Jara or something else?

Rod's song was called Brother Victor. It's more likely to be the Mitchell/Guthrie song, so have a look at this thread: songs of Victor Jara (about 1/3 way down the thread).

Or perhaps the quite wonderful Mike Harding "Victor Hara of Chile" on his Plutonium Alley CD. He wasn't always the man everybody loves to hate!!

Bill Boazman's lovely song "Victor Jara" is also worth hearing. Unfortunately, I am not sure whether he ever even made a recording of it.

If the song you're after is the one I learned from the Dick Gaughan version umpteen years ago and havn't played for a long time - from memory

(G maj)Victor Jara (D maj) of (Gmaj) Chili, he (C maj)lived like a shooting (Gmaj)star,
He (C maj)sang for the people of (G maj) Chile with his (Cmaj)songs and (D maj)his (Gmaj)guitar

And his hands were (D maj) gentle, his hands were (G maj)strong

etc...

Play the Dmaj with an F# on the bottom E string.
