In Bob Bossin's song "The New Talking Atom Blues", dating back to the early 1980s, the lyrics include the line "You got power from the sun, power from the wind ...". This song is included in the two-CD Stringband collection, "Stringband -- The Indispensable, 1972-2002".

I thinkj it was by Jessie Collin Young..

In the 80's there 2was an organization
called MUSE Musicians United for Safe Energy
I think it was started by Jackson Browne
they played at rallies, marches, and gatherings.

the song goes
"Just give me the warm power of the sun,
the steady of the water fall
the spirit of living things as they return to clay

just give me the gentle power of the wind
the comforting glow of a wood fire
and take all your atomic poisoned power away"

i will see if i can find more

They advertise in Boston, and New York and all the burbs
For folks to buy big windmills, to generate them ergs

Oh, Blow ye winds in the morning, and blow ye winds all day!
We're sick of burning fossil fuels and wasting all our pay
...

Well, it's a silly start to something. Make of it what you will, songsters. :D

There is always the Wally Whyton song "Leave them a flower":

Leave them a flower, some grass and a hedgerow
A hill and a valley, a view to the sea
These things are not yours to destroy as you want to
A gift given once for eternity

In those far-off days there was no conflict between being in favour of preserving the future and preserving the view. Ah well ...

Hi Ed

Thanks for the kind words about jiva, and about 'The Windmills Of Blyth'... it's played in D on 2nd fret, one guitar standard tuning and the other with 6th dropped to D. It's basically D, A and G with some runs thrown in.

Hey Forsh

Long time no see... thanks for recommending us and for including the link.

Cheers

How about NIMBY by Brian Bedford?

Power by Tom Paxton is not about windfarms but may still come in handy.

Wind farm songs should be laments about the destruction of landscape to enable a few people to make money out of constructing monsters that use most of the energy they produce while being manufactured. They then spend their working lives killing migratory birds.

This is mainly done to convince the population that the government is green.

Can't understand the push for windpower when there are more reliable and less intrusive alternatives such as hydro.
Here in Derbyshire the Derwent and it's tributaries powered many, many watermills that, over the years have fallen into disuse. Perhaps some of these sites could be utilised for turbines?

Hydro power is a very practical alternative energy source.
In the 1940s there were many villages throughout the UK using them.
At the present time it is not a cheap form of energy production as there is the expensive Water Extraction Licence to purchase from the Rivers Authority. This has to be bought even though the water is not removed from the water course neither is it treated with chemicals or treated in any way. Of course once it has been extracted it is then considered Process Water and tested to check its fitness to return to the river.
It is almost the ultimate in RED TAPE.
It could be considered a cash extraction licience.

I believe that Dan Berggren has recently written a song on wind and other renewable energy sources. His website is here: www.berggrenfolk.com

Wind farms aren't an answer - they're another problem.

Here's a protest song for you regarding those appearing in Lincolnshire but could be adapted to almost anywhere.
Title:- Lincolnshire Windmills

In the lowlands of Lincolnshire old windmills still stand.
Built by our ancestors to harvest the land.
Great buildings of grace made with purpose and power.
To grind the good corn from our fields into flour.

Chorus
Progress won't wait it just keeps moving on,
With much of our heritage ruined or gone!
Ruined or gone, ruined or gone,
With much of our heritage ruined or gone.

At Boston and Wainfleet at Alford and Burgh.
You can see five sailed windmills that will make your heart stir.
At Lincoln and Wrawby only four sails to creak.
An eight sailed at Heckington makes it unique.

Chorus

One hundred and thirty in the County remain.
As a great testimony to the grinding of grain.
A part of our heritage worthy of praise.
Great buildings of beauty that have seen better days.

Chorus

New structures are coming to the County we're told.
Which in no way resemble the windmills of old.
Long slender bodies with three giant arms.
Arriving in multitudes known as wind farms.

Chorus

Some folk sing their praises as sources of power.
Some give them odd names like the ivory towers.
But some say our land will be subject to rape.
As the giant new windmills obscure our landscape.

Chorus (x2)
Best wishes, Mike.
