Lizzie passed on in 1993. Lots of info is available if you "Google" her name.

Lizzie Higgins was unquestionably the best singer I have heard. Her style was totaly captivating, hypnotic even. The audence melted away, there was just you and her and she sang straight to you. There are a couple of LPs and a fiew CD tracks arround BUT none completely capture the her performance. BUT, Doc Roe, folklorest and collector, recorded Lizzie on video when in hospital and this is a powerfull bit of tape that shows, dare I say it, some of her special magic.

Thanks for the info, Auldtimer. Is the video you mention commercially available or perhaps archived somewhere?

I have the two LPs..I'd love to get anything else.

She stayed in her mother's shadow for so many years; it's a pity she wasn't better known.

Doc Roe,the english collector and folklorest, appeared at a fiew festivals talking about Traditional music and song and the performers. It's about four years or so since I last attended one of his workshops but he is still going arround. He has been involved in releasing some of his sound recordings on CD but trying to catch him at a festival would be your best bet. The School Of Scottish Studies in Edinburugh would also be a source of sound recorded material, for study not for sale, and more info on Lizzie Higgins.

I seem to recall references to Doc Rowe being involved with an archiving effort based at Sheffield - http://www.folk-network.com/miscellany/doc_rowe.html .
or try contacting oc directly - http://www.docrowe.org.uk/contact/index.html .
Quack!

Musical Traditions is planning a 2-CD release of Lizzie Higgins in the (hopefully) near future. CAMSCO will carry it when it appears.

I was fortunate enough to see Lizzie singing quite often when I spent a year living in Aberdeen in the early 70s. She was a wonderful singer and a lovely person.

I remember seeing Lizzie in Bristol many years ago with Zany Mouse. A wonderful singer and performer. The most amazing part was when she "sang" a bagpipe tune.
