BS: HBO documentary - Baghdad ER

Has anyone else seen Baghdad ER
yet? It's not for the faint of heart. I understand that the Army was supportive of this show but has backed away from it. I can understand why. The few minutes I saw of it the other night were gut wrenching to say the least. I'll be looking for it again. Currently it's only available on HBO.

We don't get HBO, wish we did just to see this, Wesley. At first I thought you might be referring to the tv drama "ER" as it has had several episodes "in Iraq" and also, just recently, "Darfur." I thought they did a good job of giving us some idea of what the reality is; to bring some knowledge to ordinary citizens.

You havn't seen reality until you've seen this. Find a friend with HBO. Or drive to Texas and see it at my place.

I saw it Wesley.........I have no idea how to talk about it. If you're pissed about this war, this won't help. The tragic waste of human life and how these medico types can cope is too graphic to even try to discuss. Someone needs to put Bush over there on the roads and let him experience Baghdad ER first hand.

Thanks for mentioning this--I'd heard it was coming, but had forgotten about it--

The complete schedule is on the HBO link in Wesley's post above. My advice is that you record it if you can as there were times I just needed a break or to talk about it with Karen.

I might tape it myself. I'm not sure I want to see all of this just before heading off to bed.

Just finished watching this again and I don't know how these people do it. An excellent piece of work from the reactions of newbies to the reactions of soldiers. The guy who got the PH and then laid there with his buddy gipping each other's hands, and silently thinking through the death of their friend............Young men and women should never have to go through this stuff and if they do it has to be for a better reason than we have in Iraq.......

Bush and all of his cabinet need to spend some real time walking in the shoes of these soldiers and medicos..........What an incredible waste this war is........

The comparison to MASH episodes is clearly evident in Baghdad ER.
We just don;t get to see the personal story lines of the doctors.
If anyone wants a free DVD of this 1 hr broadcast just ask me, I can burn a DVD for those who can view DVD R.

Watched it last night. Harrowing stuff. Those doctors and nurses should themselves get medals.

One of the things that struck me was how overweight and out-of-shape most of the soldiers looked, even the younger ones. I guess the army doesn't value physical fitness as much as it used to.

Cheers,
Michael

Pat, thanks for telling us more about it.

Donuel, I've just sent you a PM. Thanks for the offer.

Anyone know if the Shrub has seen it? Can we organise to put a giant screen in front of the Oval Office windows and MAKE him watch it?

We could mail him a copy. But that would only serve to get us on a subversives list.

You don't think we're already on it? I try to talk sexy when I think they're listening in.

Dear Sir,

Would you kindly send me a copy of the DVD "Baghdad ER"? I work with the Theater Trauma Registry, and unfortunately missed this show. Please let me have an assessment of the quality.

Thanking you for your kind attention to this matter.

My Brother-in-Law is in Fallujah. The unit of Marines that he heads process the dead and make sure the remains and property of the fallen soldiers get respectful and caring treatment and are returned home to their families.

All of the young soldiers in Iraq are volunteers. They weren't drafted or forced. Many are like my BIL--he had been out of the Marines for 8 years but knew that we are indeed at War with Islamic terrorists and both HE And HIS Brother reinlisted.

The young men and women in Iraq know why they are there. They are not conflicted about their mission or confused. They are proud to serve and keep the terrorists busy in Iraq. Every terrorist who is in Iraq or Afghanistan isn't in the USA. They have a strong love of country, understand the importance of Family and feel it is their duty to rid the world of terrorists. They don't need or want pity, protests or peacenik ignorance. They don't even need support--but it would be nice if people who know NOTHING about what is going on in Iraq (and believe me, what is being shown in the media is not a realistic example of daily life in Iraq) would just shut up and let them do their job.

How many shows are they having on Baghdad ER? I saw one show and I was wondering is this going to be a series?

Wanda - From everything I could see on HBO's website { see the link in my first post } this was a single film - not a series.

It was a single documentary film. They were with us for about 8 weeks, shot a huge amount of video, then whittled it down to a one-hour film. They actually had an editor as part of the crew there on the ground using a laptop setup to try and sift through all the footage.
