Tune Req: A Song of Patriotic Prejudice

16 Feb 99 - 03:02 PM (#58858)
Subject: Tune wanted: The English (Flanders and Swann)
From: Barbara

I can remember the tune to the chorus, but the verse melody has blown right out of my head, along with all that other stuff I wanted to remember...
Anyone help me out with the melody line?
Blessings,
Barbara

Before anyone posts me the words let me hasten to add, they are in the database.

I have created a WAV file of the tune, let me know where you want it sent, FTP'd or what. Its only 500k.

I'll give it a shot. Sometimes I can open WAVs, sometimes not. Can you send it as an attachment to my email? I'm millikan@viclink.com Or as a MIDI?
I'm afraid I don't know how to do FTP myself. I have certainly used it online to download programs when the links were there. I also have ICQ, and it allows file transfers. Any of this help, Songbird?
Blessings,
Barbara

That one was going through my head last week, particularly the line about the Americans cheering when they've won, and practicing beforehand and ruining the fun. I've heard a rumor, by the way, that there is a pretty complete Flanders and Swann song book out there. Anyone else heard about this, or where to acquire it. I do have a recording Barbara, "Best of Flanders and Swann; Trumpet of Delight" on EMI. I'm awful at the technical stuff, but I suppose I could sing it over the phone if you REALLY got desparate.

Thanks, but naw, I probably need to just get the book or CD and indulge.

I thought it was the Germans who did the practising beforehand - or did Flanders and Swann do a different version in the states?

There is a boxed set of "The Complete Flanders and Swann" available on CD containing "At the drop of a hat", "At the drop of another hat" and "The bestiary of Flanders and Swann" with a 36-page booklet. EMI is the producer and the #s CDFSB1 and CDS7974642 are on the box.

Songbird shipped me WAV of this (that right, Michael?) and I've transcribed it and converted it with Alan's spiffy program. Here it is:

This program is worth the effort of learning it.

Barbara,

please share how you converted the WAV to MIDI. This has eluded me for some time. What is Alan's software???

Thanks

Ah, Songbird. I converted the MIDI file to the information in red and the ABC file with the clever program written by Alan (Foster) of Australia. It is free and there is a clickable link to it in the middle of the above conversion. You can use the program to download all those cute red numbers and turn them into a MIDI file (as well as vice versa).
However, I think you are asking how I converted the WAV you shipped me to a MIDI file, and the software I used for that is between my ears.
Blessings,
Barbara
Sorry to be slow in answering; I've been away for a few days.
