North East US floods

Wondering how our friends in Maryland Washington NJ and PA are surviving the deluge?
Last year when Skarpi and I went to Big Mick's place in NJ there was flooding nearby, so I'm wondering about him and his little family in particular.
Chins up guys, and let us know how you're getting along.

*groan* This should be in the Non-Music section, where the other three threads about the current deluge are. :^)

FYI, as for me (in suburban Philly, PA), the apartment building where I live is on a hill, so no flood damage, but lots of roof leakage (including a mini-deluge from the ceiling of my bedroom closet!).

I echo Giok's concern. Saw some pictures on UK News this lunch time, but the reports didn't bother to mention how close to any mudcatters the deluge was. Poor journalism if you ask me.
SO - How are you all - are you dry?
Quack!

saving a bunch of small & medium carpet samples, but the old wall-to-wall is now in pieces in the driveway, drying enough to into the trash. The water may have done us a favor.

THe house in Riegelsville which we are trying to sell is on a 30' bluff and not affected by water. For the third time in two years we can describe it as "river view" since the river now covers US 611. Flood was 2' higher than Sept 2004 and a foot lower than April 2005, according to NOAA reports. Meanwhile our new house in Oxford remains dry and sound. The Brandywine flooded yesterday but is now back within its banks and US 1 is said to be open again.

No danger here in Laurel Maryland, as they're letting water out of Rocky Gorge Resevoir carefully to ease the danger, but Rockville, where I work and where My daughter and my ex live in the same Aspen Hill area that Donuel has posted about in the "Living Below A Leaky Dam" thread, is still cause for some concern, as they've evacuated some people nearby the earthen dam that holds Lake Needwood in place.

My ex and my sister in Rockville have both had minor basement leakage, but I've been spared. My ex's home phone line has been out.

Low lying areas on the other side of town here near the Laurel Racecourse have a bit of standing water, but the banks are higher over in this area .

Just spoke to Max--
He's high and dry (in the best sense of the words.) Hoping you-all are, too.

Thanks for your concern, Giok. Things are fine here in Berlin as it is on a hill, and the soil here is mostly sand which drains quickly. Having said that, the soil is saturated so there is a lot of standing water and runoff. But all things considered we are fine. Not so just a few minutes away though.

All the best,

Mick

My basement apt. got about 20 smelly gallons when the footwell drain clogged. I had been watching for leaves and stuff, but during a particularly hefty torrent, desbris got washed from the roof. Those crafty leaves clogged the drain just 30 minutes after I checked the drain. I was online 20 feet from the door, and felt water on my feet. When I opened the door a 4 inch tidal wave swept over the seepage and soaked my area rugs.
Sump pumps and a shop vac took care of most of the damage.
Compared to the folks in Pennsylvania and Delaware, I got off very light.

Here in Clifton, Virginia, Main Street was flooded out overnight, leaving us trapped, but we slept through it; by daylight only sludge remained. Much more exciting was the big storm a week ago, when a lightning strike MUCH too close for comfort blew out our cable and fried our TV. I can't complain, however; our brand new replacement TV will also play videos,DVDs, AND CDs!
