I've heard the song "Beer Drinking Woman" performed on more than one occassion and would appreciate help locating the lyrics. I believe it was written by the old bluesman 'Black Ace'.

I have never heard Black Ace's version. I got these lyrics from a Memphis Slim recording. I can't swear it is the same song, but what the heck...

I walked into a tavern to give a girl a nice time.
I had $45.00 when I went in, and I left without a dime.
She's a beer-drinking woman, man, don't you know?
She's a beer-drinking woman, and I don't want to see her no more.

I got down to my last quarter and she said, "I know you ain't through."
I said, "Oh, yes I am, and it's all because of you."
She's a beer-drinking woman, man, don't you know?
She's a beer-drinking woman, and I don't want to see her no more.

Every now and then, she'd excuse herself and say, "I gotta step around back here."
When she'd come back, there'd be room for another quart of beer.
She's a beer-drinking woman, man, don't you know?
She's a beer-drinking woman, and I don't want to see her no more.

I hope this helps.

BEER DRINKING BABY

The writer of this song is unknown. It was recorded in 1949 for Mercury, with John Coltrane in the backing group. You can find it on "The Mercury Blues 'n' Rhythm Story 1945-1955" (8 CD box)

I've got a beer drinkin' baby, well she drinks both night and day
I've got a beer drinkin' baby, well she drinks both night and day
Well she's never satisfied till she uses all my pay

She drinks beer in the morning, beer in the night,
Come home raises hell, all she wants to do is fight
She's my beer drinking baby, well she drinks beer all the time
She drinks beer so often I'm afraid I'll go stone blind

(solo)

When she walks the streets all night, up and down 7th Avenue
Drinkin' that wine and beer till she don't know what to do
She's my beer drinking baby, well she drinks beer all the time
Well she drinks beer so often I'm afraid I'll lose my mind.

Thanks for the response. I believe the version I heard utilized verses from both sets of lyrics. I should be able to have fun with these.

Thanks again, JGalt

I saw Memphis Slim and Wee Willie Dixon perform this song in 1968. It was at the old Gate of Horn in Chicago. For years, I tried to find a recording, and I found it on the Memphis Slim album referred to above.
