Hey do you think them two great guitar players will give me a few tips if we go along?
Actualy for all I know they are all great guitar players but I know Steve and big Al are.
Come to think of it MRFC has a sound crew that are better guitar players, than a lot of the performers at other venues.
he he go on Les I bet you are a great guitar player too.
See you there if only for the floor spots I have a feeling I will be working at midnight.
Actualy I dont suppose any one realises what a good guitarist Rockhen is?
She often gets her old box out and tunes it too an open D or G and then spends hours on the slide.

They got you back on the midnight run again have they. Do you get to practice your guitar at work, whilst all the other workers sleep.

Looking forward to seeing you all again. Sorry to hear about John and Jane. I guess we'll not be seeing them then? Pity.

Steve.

He he you are great guitar player mate.
But you need a lot of practice to catch up with Big Al and Steve, they are realy good.
Yes Les I spend many lonely hours in a van in a quiet layby with my travel guitar Takamini.
I lead a very sad life at times.
I will just have to listen a bit harder to themusic that is on while I am there wont I?

Someone has to do it MrV.
I have just got next weeks roster and am 12 hour nights all week.
I may be a little bit on the quiet side on friday and we will have to go at half time but we are looking forward to it a lot.
There isnt much happening next week apart from:-
Monday Cross keys at Grasby to try out a new venue for singarounds
Tuesday Grimsby Tap and Spile open mike night
Wednesday Leaking boot open mike night in Cleethorpes
Thursday Me and the Mrs practicing for next floor spot at MRFC
Friday Mrfc.
Bit of a quiet week me thinks.
Of course we are goig to the Trawl in Grimsby tomorrow to see our mate Freaky 'fil and the lads of Broadsword.
Sunday nothing doing but family coming round for Dinner.
Seems nothing ever happens in this area dont it?

If anyone else has sneaked a read of their kid's Harry Potter books, they will be familiar with Hermione's Time Turner...a very useful gadget which allows you to revisit time several times...so, you could go to folk club one night, then nip back in time, watch your kids at a concert, nip back....have a nice meal etc etc.... all on the same night...only problem with that...would anyone ever stop revisiting the weekend and actually do any work?!
Line up for Friday looks great, Villan. I can't believe how many acts there are out, there, that I still haven't seen. It is brilliant to get to hear so many different musicians.

Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Fri Aug 11th 06

Yeah wish this area was a bit more lively there is never any music to do ar gigs to go to.
Now if we lived in a big town like Gainsbro'..........
Or Caister where the sound of worried sheep is used to tune accordions in the twilight imagine what sweet music we would hear.
LOL
I hear that Mr R Hen is starting his own ozone hole over Caister to try and get a bit more sunshine in the winter months.
I got all excited when invited over to see his new pasty heater.
Bit of a disapointment then a warm glow all over.
Though to be fair he did tell me not to stand up directly underneath the bloomin thing.

Any news Strollin'or JK?
As to the sheep they dont count, and sheep dip isnt welsh lucky dip.
Hey what do you lot think re Stage piano's at acoustic sessions.
I reckon it is a very narrow minded veiw that they are worked by electrickery therefore not suitable to play at such events.
I think is like all instruments that dont need a P.A. to work.
If they are played with due consideration to the other players and the music being played they should no more be a problem than any other instrument.
Some of them 12 string guitars and banjo's could use a volume switch at times.
Is it just another of the Dead,Fake Scotts,Folk nazi's rules for proper folk clubs .Along with only playing music from your own tradition and singing only songs originating from your own dialect?
LOL
All answers on a sheep to............

We will just have to be patient and wait for Strollin, who I beleive will be about 6 weeks at home to fully recover, so you never know, we could well see him on stage before Christmas, hopefully not doing a Vin Garbutt and telling us about all the gory details of hospital life. :-)

Once again thanks to G&T for PA

Thanks to Sreve Newton for MCing.

IMHO it was a very good night again, with lots of variety.

All performers provided excellent sets. Unfortunately haven't got Tim to do the write ups. Anyway many thanks to the performers.

An excellent turnout, considering holidays, festivals etc. There were about 40 people there.

Nice song from Elizabeth about her Dad. i hadn't heard that one before.

I love songs that have some relevance to our own experiences. its a difficult subject to tackle. I've had a shot at writing about my own parents - but it always ends up dire and mawkish.

This is true.
Is unfortunate gotta miss next one too as is holiday time for the Twanglers.
We have a few invites to folk clubs and sing arounds while we are away so will have plenty of live music to keep us going.
Hope the next evening goes as always and is another big success.
Gotta work on some tunes to some poems that one of our new freinds from Staithes music weekend has sent me.
Is interesting to work on other peoples things,is a bit weird not having the full control I am use to with my own though.
I am dead pleased because one of them has already been published as a poem and it is kind of special to be asked to collaborate in some thing like that.
Cheers all

I agree re Elizabeth's song...was a touching tribute to her dad without being too sentimental...no way could I have sung that if I had been her. She sang it with feeling but without going over the top...a really difficult thing to do.
