I would hate to lose this pub, but I can't help feeling that it's doomed. The last six or seven landpersons haven't been able to make a go of it as a folk pub, a food pub, a rock pub...

The large amount of money demanded up front by Enterprise Inns from anybody taking it on means that it has to start making money on sales from day one. If anyone asked me about taking it on without they had an amazing business plan and lots of money behind them - I'd advise them against it.

From the Enterprise Inns website:

The Sun Inn is located just off the town of Beverley, directly opposite the Minster. Beverley is an historical tourist town approximately 7 miles from Hull with year round tourist trade to the area. The pub is a traditional cask ale house with exposed beams, slate floor all decorated in a traditional cask ale house style. The trading area comprises an open plan area with a number of designated customer areas including a no-smoking area. Externally there is an enclosed patio area to the rear of the property and a fully equipped catering kitchen located just off the trading area. The well presented private accommodation comprises lounge, kitchen, 3 bedrooms and bathroom. Enterprise Inns are seeking an experienced cask ale operator to further develop the trade by the continuation of the development of cask ale and the introduction of a daytime and early evening food offer. The business has been well supported by folk music and other live entertainment and the successful applicant should look to incorporate this within their plans for the business.
Estimated Capital Requirement £16,000

I think the major problem is the fact that there have , as I understand it been managers put into the Sun not tenants. Maybe someone could explain the situation of an "holding company" as far as I am aware that is who has the tenancy on the Sun. Are these people who have the holding company part of enterprise or are they out to make a profit as well as pay managers and staff?, another thought, maybe coincidence I don`t know but when I went for a fact finding pint today , the blonde woman was in there, she used to be there when the present landlady first started and stayed there with her husband for the first couple of months. I did not get chance to talk to her today but I am sure when I spoke to her previously she mentioned that herself and husband were looking to become tenants, as I say, maybe coincidence and not something I would like to ask present landlady about. I for one think the place needs a couple with an interest in making the pub work 1st and making money 2nd

harriWattsband are currently buying extra lottery tickets with the intention of using future winnings to buy the Sun pub. It will be a super venue with lots of undesirables banned for life. However, we will look favourable on people buying tickets for 'Music Exchange' which is coincidently on tomorrow night....................(see associated thread).
