Paramount Records on History Detectives-Blues

We watched a rerun of an episode of History Detectives on PBS, which we had missed the first time around. It was about a man who thinks he has two unknown blues "master" recordings from the short-lived Paramount Records in Wisconsin. They even played a short bit of an interview of Son House, from the 1960s, I think it was. They also interviewed a woman whose father was the master recording engineer. She said when the Depression forced Paramount to close down, many of the employees were so mad about it, they threw part of the inventory in the Milwaukee River!

Along with Son House, they also had recordings of Ma Rainey, Blind Lemon Jefferson, and many others.

You can read more about the show and watch video highlights at History detectives. There is also more about Paramount at Wisconsin Academy Review.

It was an interesting show.

Kat, I just caught the very end of it. I wish I had seen the whole thing.

HeyaSteve, nice to see you.

Our local PBS is going to rerun it on Saturday, 9 Sept. Maybe yours will, too? You can check by going to this page, provided you saw it on a US station and know the city or zip code to put in the search.

I was wrong in thinking we were watching a rerun. It seems their new season started in June, so this was the last of their new episodes for this season.

I also noticed that they do provide complete transcripts of earlier shows. I will try to remember to check for that in a week or two and include it in this thread.

Thanks!
