Posting lyrics in the Mudcat Cafe Facebook page means they just disappear and we try to keep that for announcements (like your Fastnet posts). |

15 Feb 23 - 02:52 PM (#4165260) Subject: RE: Dick Miles Songs From: Helen Thanks for sharing your music, Dick. I just listened to Farewell to the Humber and Dogger, and realised that the melody is Cad É Sin Don Té Sin (which I first heard as The Limerick Rake, by The Pogues) and it is one of my favourite Irish melodies. I am always interested in the musical performances of long-time Mudcatters and this is the first time I have heard your songs. I love your guitar work, too. Thank you. I'll confess I'm really not into fishing so the lyrics I like on this page is Song of the Swift and you have written beautiful lyrics about my all-time favourite bird, which has always fascinated my with its speedy flight manoeuvres, almost like dancing in the sky. I used to see them flying near the bridge over the river near my home when I was younger and more recently near the creek where we walk regularly. So thank you. |

19 Feb 23 - 01:31 AM (#4165511) Subject: RE: Dick Miles Songs From: Helen Thank you, Dick, for a beautiful song, and Joe for posting the video link. I noticed a couple of typos in the lyrics. Should these lines be: 3 Flying for the sun *we're* seeking And Flying high you *started* soaring I also noticed that you sang 2 I watched you *flying* higher but I suspect that "circling" was correct as shown in the lyrics above. (Sorry! Former English teachers never die. LOL) |
19 Feb 23 - 03:52 AM (#4165513) Subject: RE: Dick Miles Songs From: The Sandman yes Flying for the sun *we're* seeking is correct I watched you circling higher is correct sometimes i have sung "swiftly fleeting2, rather than quickly. out of curiosity, is the grammar incorrect "started Soaring" in which case you could use" Flying high your constant soaring" or best is possibly "flying high you kept on soaring " |
19 Feb 23 - 04:16 AM (#4165514) Subject: RE: Dick Miles Songs From: Helen No problem with "started soaring" - there was just a typo. It read "stared soaring". As the composer of the song you choose which phrase expresses your thoughts in the best manner but "started soaring" sounds good to me. Oops, I just found another bit to look at: never grounding *love's* fond feelings (LOL What I jokingly call Apostrophitis - apostrophes where they shouldn't be or missing when they should be there.) I'll stop looking now. |
