So, Shambles, do you think you might be able to take some time to tell us about Freddie King, instead of just stating the date he was born. Birthday threads can be fun, if you learn something from them. As long as you're going to the trouble of starting these birthday threads, why not tell us something more interesting than the guy's birth date?

So- Joe Offer, why don't you just mind your own business and concentrate on finding ways to allow posters to post what they wish without you being seen to feel you have some right to judge this wanting? If I felt that posters now needed your permission to start a thread - I may have asked you.

It seem to work pretty well in the other threads if what is said in the thread is left up to other posters. As is largely the case with OBIT threads. If posters do not wish to - the thread will fall off the bottom. Or are you going to find some justification to move, close or 'slently delete' this thread too?

I know what I know and think about Freddie King - I am interested in reading what other posters may think of him and what part he and his music may have had on their lives. Be this silly or profund. Birthdays - whether the person is still alive or not - give us the chance to do this.

And it is probably better than waiting until the subject is dead.

Perhaps you could tell us what do you think of Freddie King?

Freddie King (September 3, 1934 – December 28, 1976) was an influential American blues guitarist and singer, best known for his recordings "Hide Away", "Have You Ever Loved A Woman" and "Going Down".

Well the site that told me that his birthday was 30 September, would seem to be wrong - but we are just a few days late.....

Makes three of us.... maybe if the link had been posted in the first posting it wouldn't have generated the bad feeling and I'd've been inclined to find out about him first.... as it is, I'm happy if I never hear of him again.

As he's been dead for 30 years, it's unlikely I'll be hearing from him soon....

I saw Freddy KIng in Liverpool in the 70s(?). I'm not crazy about his guitar playing ( B.B. and Albert are far more interesting) but he was a great singer and composed some very catchy tunes.

Thank you for that link Roger - although my first "love" is traditional British and Irish folk song I was also lucky enough to hear the Rev Gary Davis, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee perform live in a small informal session when I was a teenager.

I'm sure there are many many more Blues performers I've never heard of but, although I'm considerably older now, I hope my mind is not as closed as some of the dismissive remarks above

I am quite sure that Freddie had never heard of Kendall either.

Nor I suspect has Eric Clapton - who certainly had heard the playing of Freddie King and who even Kendall may have heard of?

It was through the playing of Eric Clapton that I first heard of Freddie King. In fact I would suggest that much of Eric Clapton's early style was influenced by (or even stolen from) Freddie King.

I am glad to say that I am glad that I have heard of both Freddie King and Eric Clapton..............

Apparently my comment was misconstrued. I didn't mean that I don't care about the man or his music, just his birthday. I'm not into birthdays much, not even my own.
