The inquest of Terry Lloyd who was killed by American forces in Iraq, opened today.

The American military finally gave the film footage of the event to the inquiry. It has been discovered that fifteen minutes of footage is missing. This just happens to be the ten minutes before the event, and five minutes after it.

Former ITN chief executive Stewart Purvis said despite numerous requests to the Defence Secretary, the information they were given about what happened was "limited".

ITN had to send two of its own journalists into Basra to find out what happened.

Mr Lloyd, 50, died on March 22, 2003, just days after the Iraq conflict began, having crossed to the Basra area from Kuwait to work as a "unilateral" journalist operating independently from the invading coalition forces.

Accidentally killed, I think you meant to say.
It is very easy for those not involved in fire fights to condemn those who are, and whos lives, and that of their comrades, depend on rapid judgement calls.
In the type of conflicts that are occuring world wide nowadays, it is a miracle that many more such incidents do not occur.
The military is, and always has, engaged in "cover-ups" to protect its own from those who have never been under fire and who are quick to point the finger.
The US forces have had more than their fair share of such incidents in the past few years, but then they have also born the brunt of most of the "hostilities" too.
The soldiers concerned in that most unfortunate mistake are also men (and women) like yourselves, and not automatic killing machines.
Think on. And think "There but for the Grace of God, go I"

You could have fooled me, the US army is notorious for being trigger happy, no matter what conflict the US have been involved in we get that silly statment "friendly fire". There for the unfortunate one goes another American blunnder.
