Bonnie Lass Come o'er the Burn (Archie Fisher)

I have a memory of an album including Archie on Topic Records in the 1960's.

This album had a picture of Archie on the left side if the front cover and two smaller pictures of other artists on the right. A thin green band ran round the edge of the front cover. The style was that of the "New Voices" issues.

Does this ring a bell with anyone, even better has anyone got it, or did I just dream it into existance.

I can tell you what it's not.

12T 125 New Voices (Watersons etc.), 12T 133 (Gordenna McCulloch etc) 12T 128 Bonnie lass come o'er the Burn.

Neither is it Fisher Family, Far over the Forth or Will ye gang Love.

It's not listed in the Musical Traditions Topic Discography either.

Any ideas???? Thanks, John.

John,
Just a thought, but it wouldn't perhaps be the "A prospect of Scotland" album on Topic? I think it was Topic 12T 169.

The only other Topic ones I know of with Archie are the ones you've listed above. Let me know, as if it isn't that one, I haven't got it either!!

No Andy, It's not "Prospect" or any of the other samplers.

If I'm right its a three artist/group album like New Voices.

I saw it at the "Barras" many years ago in poor condition, and have been looking for a good copy ever since.

Will keep you posted.

John.

One other idea, have a look at nigel gatherer's site..www.nigelgatherer.com as he claims to have a complete Fisher Family's discography..

Good luck with the hunt...

I'd looked there Andy. It's good, but is missing some of the Waverly stuff and the Golden Bird v1 & v2, that I've got, so this could be missing too.

Why don't you e-mail Archie and ask him?

The Topic Discography at musical traditions only lists the ones mentioned so I'd say it wasn't a Topic album as that Discography appears comprehensive.

Are you sure it's not the Bonny Lass one? The cover matches your description - green line around the edge, 3 photos, 2 smaller ones of Dolina Maclennan and Enoch Kent and a larger one of Archie and Ray, but on the right side, not left.
Can you remember any of the songs that were on it? Ray and Archie sing The Twa Corbies, Kilbogie and The night visiting song and Ray does Far over the Forth on her own.
Ray and Archie were recorded in 1960, Dolina in 1961 and Enoch in 1962.

As somebody just said in another thread, 'dontcha just luv it here?' The thread's author says he's checked the mustrad discography. Sir Kevin Sheils of Walthamstow confirms it's not there. So somebody else comes along and remarks helpfully that it might just be in the . . . yeah, that's right, the mustrad discogr . . .

All we need is for madlizzie to come along and say Show of Hands have covered it.

Little Robyn your a big star.

My copy of Bonnie Lass Come o'er the Burn is obviously a later reissue with a different cover.

Topic reissued a number of albums with different covers.

Bonnie Lass itself is a reissue of three earlier topic EPs. Far over the Forth in Ray and Archie's case.

It would have been around 1969 that I saw it, and would not have been aware of Ray at the time, which is why I misremembered it as just being Archie. I'd just bought his Xtra album after seeing him in concert, and that was my introduction to the revival and the begining of a long slippery slope.

Kevin - I've sent Rod info on some of the missing data for MTs Topic discography over the years, and that was one of the reasons this came back to mind, (well that and being nearly as neardy a completest as andymac).

Thanks again, John.

John

Yes I guess that mustrad's is pretty accurate now, I've added a couple of things a few years ago including info from my dusty old handwritten label copy of TRL 1 (no sleeve)

Sounds like the label and lack of sleeve for TRL 1 is identical to the previously missing TRL 2 as described on the discography. I must dig it out and check how the matrix numbers compare.
