I never know where to look for Lyle Lovett recordings in the record store - is he country? pop?

His work defies categorization. The man's a genius, and he's produced some of the most interesting popular music I've heard in recent years. I love the way his humor sneaks up, almost unnoticed. And then I think, "Did he say what I think he said?"

No - but this one at least shows that Joe Offer and I are not in complete disagreement on everything.

At least we agree on the merits of Lyle Lovatt...........

These notices remind me of Abby Sales' wonderful "Happy" posts.

Caught him on a show one time doing a concert with Bonnie Raitt. That was a fine evening.

My first real date with my wife was to a Lyle Lovett concert. He opened with a slow version of the Grateful Deads "Friend of the Devil" since Jerry Garcia had died just a few days earlier. A great show and a great date. It went well - we celibrate our 10th wedding anniversary tomorrow.

He's a hometown boy around here. Seriously. I used to work next door to a local country-style restaurant and apparently I was the only one at my office who had never seen him when he stopped in to say "hello" to the restaurant proprietors. Sigh.

I actually had to go to Iowa City to see him perform. How sad is that?
