I sang 'sheepstealer' there and the hairs on the back of my neck stood up as that was one of the offences people were hanged in the gaol for. |

All they need is money. There's supposed to be a ghost at the Tudor Barn but we've never seen it. There has been the occasional ghostly wail - oh no, that was someone singing. When Nellie's was at the Cardinal's Error in Tonbridge, it reputedly had a ghost, but again, I never saw or heard it. |

HAD to see it, of course. So I went in - and for a joke, the others locked me in! But nothing happened - no bumps, screams or other unworldly phenomena. Not sure if it makes a difference or not, but I don't frighten easily so I wasn't contributing any psychological vibe. Great gig, though. |

The current landlady did an experiment which involved taking dogs around the place, as they are supposed to be sensitive to such things, but the spooks must have been out that evening. I suggested she should take a horse upstairs, as they are even more sensitive so they say. |

So they told me. Another was in a pub in one of the Wingfields, Derbyshire - it could be North Wingfield. It and the building opposite is supposed to be haunted by the ghosts of the Pentridge rioters who were inprisoned in the house opposite. I didn't see a ghost. Even the ghosts piss off when I start. I did one gig in Belper in the lounge of the Kings Head and this woman who was a white witch told me she she could see I was haunted by a grey spirit, who hovered over me as I played. Perhaps it was just the Theakstons working its subtle magic. |

The Civic Centre was reputed to be haunted. I must admit, in all the many times I went there, the ghost didn't have the guts to appear. As I was setting up the Bar, a glass flew from the middle of the tray I was carrying and smashed on the floor. None of the other glasses moved. I just said, "OK, you've had your fun" and was very glad when the others turned up!. And to think that we'd all been getting wound up that the computers, fire alarms and other such stuff was going to throw a wobbly at midnight. |
