6 string as 12 string

I read in an article years ago about Keith Richards guitars where he uses a tuning on a 6 string to make it sound like a 12 string by substituting higher gauge strings. What is the tuning (and gauges) to use? I THINK it's called mountain tuning or some such thing.

Not a good idea on some vintage and solid top guitars. Can lift the bridge/damage the soundboard. Drop the tuning down a whole step and stick a capo on if you're gonna do it.

Actually, this tuning, known as "High Strung guitar" or "Nashville tuning", puts a lot less stress on the guitar, since you're using lighter strings. I have an old Yamaha strung this way. Keith Richards used to call it "putting a little Angel dust on this track". Ian Tamblyn loves this tuning and has an old high strung Harmony Sovereign. Paul Simon has a black Yamaha that's high strung as well. He plays this a lot.
