Jesse Winchester

I hadn't seen Jesse Winchester perform in too many years so I made the pilgrimage to his Montreal concert last night at the Sala Rossa hall last night.

What an incredible singer-songwriter Jesse is. Every single one of his songs is a little masterpiece of words and melody. His singing is full of Southern soul and his guitar playing, on a nylon string guitar, was beautiful. There were several hundred people packed into the sold-out show who hung on every note and every word and rewarded Jesse with a highly deserved and sustained standing ovation. One of the best shows I've ever seen by a singer-songwriter.

Couldn't make it last nigh even though I live just 45 minutes away. Other commitments like getting money for our up coming festival next year. Will release all the performers on the other thread early in the new year. C. Ham, did you come all the way from Toronto?? Next time p.m me and you can sleep over. You more or less pass by my house.

I would love to see him if he ever came to the UK (or I ever get to Canada).

I have several of his albums/CDs but some of the live stuff on his website sounds really nice, with just the single gently plucked guitar for accompaniment to his wonderful and distinctive voice.

He is not only a remarkable singer-songwriter, but his stage performance is also incredible.

Beer,

Thanks for the offer, but I've still got family in Montreal.

What Peace said about his performance is so true. The way he quietly captures and never lets go of the complete attention of every person in the audience is incredible. You could have heard a pin drop in the hall.
