07 Mar 97 - 11:15 AM (#2906) Subject: Tanglefoot Chords From: Dan Calder I'm looking for the chords to some tunes from Tanglefoot's "Saturday Night At Hardwood Lake" album. I'd like to start with "Traighli Bay", if anybody can help. Thanks in advance. Dan |

12 Jul 08 - 11:03 PM (#2387616) Subject: RE: Tanglefoot Chords From: Charley Noble Dan- "Traighli Bay" is a tough one to decode. I've got a set of chords I've used but I'm not sure I've really nailed it. My best suggestion is placing a request on their website, and Steve or someone else is usually ready to respond. I've never heard them before this morning so thanks for putting me into them they'd like that one at the mocal pub! On the album they play it in Dm but I've transcribed it in Am with capo on 5th fret -

13 Jul 08 - 10:45 AM (#2387769) Subject: RE: Tanglefoot Chords From: Charley Noble Nick- That sounds pretty good but I hear the first line of the chorus differently: And with (C)tar on our pigtails and (Am)blood on our rapiers And I'm thinking the third line would run: It's (C)hiho away boys, we'll (Am)sail from Traighli Bay boys But it could also be that I've reprocessed this song in my head! 13 Jul 08 - 12:07 PM (#2387802) Subject: RE: Tanglefoot Chords From: Nick The version I worked this out from was the Captured Alive album I've had a re-listen (and grabbed a second opinion off my son who has the best set of ears for transcribing I know - he's currently transcribing a load of Steve Vai stuff at present) and there's no Am in the first line of the chorus and definitely an F on the end of the third line of the chorus on that version. |
13 Jul 08 - 12:09 PM (#2387804) Subject: RE: Tanglefoot Chords From: Nick The 'blood on the rapiers' bit is when the band comes in with the harmonies and first listen I thought there was a chord change there but am sure now there isn't |
13 Jul 08 - 02:39 PM (#2387898) Subject: RE: Tanglefoot Chords From: Charley Noble Nick- It's most likely the wall of harmony that swept me into Am. Cheerily, Charley Noble |

26 Oct 14 - 01:36 AM (#3672174) Subject: RE: Chords Req: Traighli Bay (from Tanglefoot) From: GUEST Hi folks...I've spent the last few days learning 'Pirate Songs' to play for a Pirate Day gig at a long term care centre (read:old folks' home)...This is definitely one of the best pirate songs out there...the chord changes are a bit tricky but very cool...just a tip :always listen to the bass part first when trying to figure out chords for a song...In most songs the bassist will play the root note of the chord-at least on the first beat of any new chord... So the song starts on a Dm chord with pick up notes on the A string of A then C and then finally the D open on the D string with the rest of the Dm chord sounding above the D-root note... As the lyrics start the guitar plays Dm for 5 bars then changes to the Bb ,then F then Am....the second half of the verse is the same chord progression but after the Am it ends on a big flourish on the Dm The chorus is F until "we'll fly the skull..." ,it then changes to Bb then back to the F then to the C on 'by god ...'....back to F for 'it's high ho...'then to the Dm on 'sail for...' then Bb for 'Traighli Bay boys...' then Gm for 'Hoist the ...' the Bb for 'Roger at the...' the C for 'break of ...' then back to the F for the word 'Day' as the vocals sing the F chord the band immediately starts the opening A,C, D riff which is fine technically because the Dm is very similar in structure to the F...it is referred to as the 'relative' minor...... I'm sure after fifty listens that these are the right chords....enjoy!! |
