BS: And it's Goodnight from her

06 Jan 07 - 12:53 PM (#1928370)
Subject: BS: And it's Goodnight from her
From: Emma B

- I may be gone sometime.........

Mudcat has played a significant role in my life for the last few years and I'd like to thank all the wonderful friends, aquaintances, Santas and Santees that made it that way for me
I'm sorry but it's no longer the sort of place I want to hang out in anymore.

"Of all the money that e'er I spent
I've spent it in good company
And all the harm that ever I did
Alas it was to none but me
And all I've done for want of wit
To memory now I can't recall
So fill to me the parting glass
Good night................"

or maybe a song celebrating the success of the foxhounds would have been more appropiate?

Could you say before going (please don't) what sort of place you see you're leaving, and what it was?

    Best wishes

Sorry (but not surprised) to hear it, Em.

A friend of my described the feeling as being like going to your favourite pub (bar). Good beer, good friends and good atmosphere. If one of these ingredients is not so good, you may put up with it. If the other ingredients are also lacking, you go somewhere else.

The Mudcat has no beer...

Hi Emma, so sorry to see another member leave this site. This has to be the second or third I know of over the past few weeks.

The abuse can be hard to take I agree. Can someone not do something about this ?
Maybe remove the offensive posts ?

Love

Charlotte

Hugs and kisses Emma.

I hope it doesn't take too long for the wounds to heal. You will be sadly missed by many.

I'll keep your glass clean and at the ready for your ultimate return... I hope.

Hey, Emma: I left here once myself at the height of the Martin Gibson dispeptic septic debacle. I needed some fresh air. Hopefully, that's all that you'll need and you'll bring your fine self back. Mudcat seems to go in cycles. I think we're in the Spin Cycle, right now.

By not stating the reasons they leave - people who make these public exits must enjoy the ensuing thread of speculation. Attention seeking.

Look I said I was gone from these threads - my reasons are my own,
I have spoken to Joe and would be more than happy to explain any PERSONAL reasons to my friends or indeed anyone else who thinks it is any of their buisiness.

But since it falls unto my lot
That I should rise and you should not
I'll gently rise and softly call
Good night..........

Thank you
Em

Like clockwork eh? If it is a personal matter you could have pm'd your 'friends'. Instead you publicly posted your 'dear John' in a public forum. But no bother. Nice people can be attention seekers too.

06 Jan 07 - 05:49 PM (#1928632)
Subject: RE: BS: And it's Goodnight from her
From: Bernard

No, guest, Emma has friends, not 'friends' - unlike you, it would seem from your reprehensible attitude.

Have you any idea how many friends Emma would have to PM - and she'd be sure to accidentally miss someone out. No, this is the fairest way of dealing with an unsatisfactory situation.

Your 'argument' is flawed... wrongly accusing Emma of attention seeking when you are seeking attention yourself in a more cowardly way stinks, too. You are seeking to provoke a response because you take delight in irritating people anonymously. So sad.

Judging from your posting style - correct spelling, good grammar, fair punctuation - you are far more educated than you would wish us to believe.

You really ought to know better. Go pester someone else.

Oh Em, I've only just started really looking at what goes on in BS over the past few weeks and it looks rough mostly. So sorry to hear you've taken this step, I'm sure you've thought long and hard. It would be nice to think you'll change your mind and come back when things are settled down. I hope you do Honey.

Catch you at Straw Bear or the next Fest, keep smiling,

Rough as a badger's arse, m'dear, which is why it takes a certain sort of proctological prestidigitation even to juggle newts down here - and that's from a newcomer.
If you have any sense, get up above the line as fast as you can. Go on without me.................

This is confirmation, if ever I needed it, as so many people are being deeply upset by the contents of bs threads, that it stands for BULLSHIT!

There are more than a few good BS threads: Sitting at the Kitchen Table, MOAB, the Taverns, 85,000,000, and many others. It seems that only when threads become politicized, when opinions are expressed without regard for the opinions of others, that ugliness breaks out.

I'm a little surprised by the current crop of public leavetakings. The Mudcat has been much more abrasive than it is just now. We do seem to allow unpleasant people leeway, but even unpleasant people have something to offer, if only to serve as a horrible example.
I developed a thicker epidermis just being here, and wouldn't leave lightly. The world is full of prats, but not the Mudcat. It feels to me like any family, very slightly disfunctional, maybe, but ready to help when needed.

Not necessarily sensitivity that causes people to leave. I went away for a while because instead of making me feel good, as it had before, Mudcat had started to stress me out and make me feel less than happy. All the bitching and nastiness and the fact that you didn't seem to be able to join an innocent, enjoyable thread without someone (often anonymous Guests) coming along and spoiling it. I drifted back gradually, but I still only open maybe three or four threads when I come on here, whereas I used to read heaps of them.

When one's family becomes a headache, a break away from them is often a good idea

"I developed a thicker epidermis just being here, and wouldn't leave lightly."

That is true of many longtime posters here. But that isn't necessarily a good thing. It just means your tolerance level for abuse rarely gets reached. If you tolerate high levels of bad behavior as a habit, you become inured to it. Others don't, and newcomers won't think much of you for insisting that abusive, bullying behavior is acceptable and should be allowed to remain the standard/norm in the forum.
