At the risk of upsetting folks, I want to get the word out that I'll be doing a show just North of Oklahoma City OK on Sun Feb 25, 2007 at the UCO Jazz Lab.

I know we have some OKC area Mudcatters, so I hope y'all don't mind this promotional message.

I'll be playing a mix of new and old songs, from all the albums and some of the unrecorded stuff. I hope you'll help me get the word the word - I need all the help I can get!

I've heard great things about the venue and the OCTMA folks believe there's a real interest in the region in Folk and Celtic music. I am looking forward to playing there.

Wyo Woman is close by, I think. I'll send her an email.

Sorry ... I'm in the Kansas City area, about five hours from OKC. However, anytime you're in the KC area, I'll do my best to get there. I live in Lawrence, KS, which also has a lively music scene. Any plans to come this way?

I'll be in KC area on March 23/24 at O'Malley's in Weston MO. I think I'll be in Lawrence KS too, later in '07. I've done some music for a movie about the town - and the film's coming out late this year. They are looking to do some promotion and shows in the area. So I'm sure I'll have a show or two related to all that activity.

One of the songs for the film is here in the MP3 player at the top right, it's the song called "One Bloody Friday." The song is William Quantrill, telling his side of the Lawrence Massacre tale ...

Anyway - I hope you can make it out to O'Malley's! Here's the detail:

Wish I could be there, Jed. But it's a long way from Maine to Oklahoma. I'm sending this to a friend in OK, though. I sent him one of your CDs for Christmas, so maybe he'll be interested.

I'll be singing at the Phoenix Folk Festival March 23/24. Damn!

BUT when you come to Lawrence, please let me know. I'll come for sure -- and bring many enthusiastic friends!

Best of luck with it, Jed. A bit too far to travel for me, too :-)

Best wishes,

That is one fine song, Jed! Thanks for the link and the downloads. I have a particular interest in that song due to a great-grandfather being involved as a Rebel spy and so vague stories about KS and the other great-grandfather fighting for the Union in KS.

Be careful Jed - I'm not sure that there's anybody at all in OKC, never mind folkies. On my trip, I decided to stop part of a day in OKC, try my luck busking, then get back on the bus in the evening. It was a Sunday. I wandered around the downtown core, and there was nobody, nobody on the streets. Well, there was one guy who looked like he might be homeless - we greeted each other and moved on - but I walked down several downtown streets, and literally did not see another person on the sidewalks besides him and me. It was kind of creepy.

Bente - it might be a bit far! I'll have tocome out your way, one of these days.

The Lawrence Massacre story is one of the toughest tales from that era, Kat. Thanks for downloading the song. I don;t get to play it too often - but do so whenever I can retell the tale.

Thanks Chance! And Marion ... empty streets is what I'm afraid of for Sunday night. It could be a long ride home!

I hope you enjoy Phoenix Wyo. That's one of my favorite cities - but I don;t get out that way as much as I'd like.

Jed: I hope the trad music folks that asked you to come have done their part to get out the word. Unfortunately, I've found by experience here in MS that the local "old time" music types through their organization, which I assumed meant fans of trad/folk music, can be a bit clique-ish because they disdain anything that doesn't meet their definition of old time. For example, they think the world of Carter family music but don't see any distinction between the songs that were truly trad/folk songs and the ones AP Carter wrote himself. On the song (Bloody Friday), I'm glad you mentioned some of the reasons why the Quantrell (spelling?) raiders thought a raid into KS would be appropriate, that is, you mentioned Osceola and KC (was the KC reference to the arrest and subsequent killing/maiming of womenfolk being held in the old warehouse building that collapsed?)

Marion: I gotta ask -- maybe I'm just a dumb country boy but what is "busking"? I don't know that I've ever done that and, if I have, maybe I need to know what it's properly called. Inquiring minds want to know... ;-).

Now my mind hurts...to early in the morning for such an in-depth discussion...

Hi SC. Busking is playing music (or juggling, etc.) in the streets for tips. A couple of years ago, I took a long bus trip around Canada and America, which involved a lot of busking, and meeting of Mudcatters.

I'll be leaving for OK soon. Nice day for a drive.

I believe the folks organizing this concert know what they're getting. They seemed pretty familiar with the music and talked about the differnet corwds to whom they'd be advertzing. We'll see how many stay home to watch the Oscars!

No busking on this trip.

;-)

Hey, Jed...feel free to head west once in a while. I'll be heading home from Florida the week of March 7th...where you gonna be at? And if anyone is passing through Albuquerque on the way to somewhere else, we maintain a spare bedroom just for itinerant folk singers and folk dancers.

Well, I learned something to add to my vocabulary. I knew "street performers" can be seen in larger cities that allow such but never knew the "job" had a name.

Did you get my e-mail from my personal address? You may have answered a question I asked there about "American Pilgrim" when you posted the comment above about the bus trip.

Hi SC. No, I didn't get an email from you - maybe it didn't get by the junk mail filter for some reason? I wrote American Pilgrim when I was making plans for the trip - I didn't actually get to any crossroads in Mississippi, if that was your question.

How was the show, Jed? Find any humans in OKC?

I am not sure why Jed hasn't offered a link to these but I will. Yeah - he's talented but oh dear is he not among Mudcat's sexiest? And he is not even playing a banjo. Enjoy!

Maybe these spots were part of the deal with Larrivee when he got the new guitar: he'd do some short video pieces featuring the guitar. Notice how he starts and ends with the Larrivee name prominently displayed and the video never shows Jed's face except in the stills overlay?

Great guitar work, Jed!

Thanks.

The Larrivee shots help us both ... these quickies are just for fun, for now. We may try some serious stuff down the road - but it's been interesting.

What model is the new Larrivee? Just curious.

It's the L-09E. Great guitar. The sound is amazing. I did some studio work a couple weeks ago and some TV stuff yesterday (for NTIF) and I was really impressed with the sound.
