Marmite always used to be made from the remains of the brewing which is why it was next to the Bass brewery in Burton on Trent for many years [don't know if it still is, haven't been there for ages]. You can get guiness marmite on britsuperstore website which will post various foods anywhere in the world. |

I'll admit that the first time you try Marmite it tastes like s**t, but you must persevere. If you close your eyes and think of England (or Uncle Sam for our American cousins)it's possible to imagine (on a good day, and with a following wind) that Marmite tastes a bit like beef extract. The secret, as the manufacturers will tell you, is to spread it very thinly on toast. If you take in too much too soon you'll regret it. Oh yes. |

I think they made it themselves - or possibly contracted it out . I'm talking early 1950's here. Eventually it was discontinued. Sounds like its time has come again! Regards |

I don't know why I thought it was more expensive. Meanwhile I have now bought some Birds Eye frozen soya beans. The TV ads for these have me most intrigued. They look like elongated garden peas or, alternatively, like bright green baked beans. I can't wait to find out what they taste like. |
