Am I in the right room, or on the wrong train

Subject: Am I in the right room, or on the wrong train
From: Mikal

First off, let me tell you that reading these forum remarks have become a major addiction in a very short while! One can learn so much in a single day's reading...

However, now I find myself wondering if I am in a class anywhere near the caliber of the true Mudcatter. I am hardly what anyone would call a great sense of humor.) And I am not presently engaged in professional performance.

Are there folks in here that are "sittin' around the fire with the old folks in the family and singin' types like me?

Don't get me wrong, but I don't want to muddy up a perfectly good forum of real musicians with the inane comments of a neophite like me.

So, am I in the right room, or have I got on the wrong train?

Mikal

hi Mikal,

You are most definately in the right place. You just happened to stumble in on a week were there wasn't much of that sort of posting....... do a search for Spancil Hill....... you'll see how it can be... (I think it should be compulsory reading for newbies anyway...)

Dear Mikal,

It's obvious you have a screw loose to even ask such a thing, so OF COURSE...you're definitely in he right place!!!

WELCOME TO MUDCAT.....BEST CYBER VILLAGE ANYWHERE!!!

Young or old, amateur or pro, beginner or old hand, folk music and family is what we're about here...and anyone with that interest has a place here. If you're a "neophyte" you'll get all the help you need and learn more than you bargained for on a wide range of subjects. But guess what my friend??? None of us care that you're a neophyte, we value your opinion too and I'm willing to bet that all of us will learn from you too!

So don't go away...Watch the welcome messages appear on this thread and while you're at it, read a few otheer current ones and do a little historical research too. I'm a kinda'thread wandering smart aleck. It's like my job to poke a few wisecracks here and there. so take anything I say with a grain of salt...except this...You're Mudcat material. You obviously are sensitive to feelings and care about things or you wouldn't have started this thread. I'm sure that Big Mick will show up to say welcome as well as the tree planting committee, the "Keep Mudcat Clean" committee, and the "Art Thieme bad pun and condom group" too. Don't ask about the last one , just enjoy it...might be your first research. Again...WELCOME!!!

Hey, Mikal! Welcome and everything Catspaw said! I am as sitting round the home fire/family singing as they come and I have never felt so welcome anywhere else as I do here at the 'Cat. I stumbled in here in January and have the honour of calling a lot of these "phoaks" my friends.

My mom passed on, unexpectedly on Jan. 18th, just a couple of weeks after I found the 'Cat. If I hadn't had my newfound friends to come to in the following days of sorrow and heartache; if I hadn't been enfolded with love and caring, as I was here by so many, I don't think I would've made it through as well as I have. You will not find a better group of people anywhere.

Fare well, Fare Safe, and Fare Swiftly in all that you do and enjoy!

katlaughing (who messes up Catspaw litterbox from time to time, while others come along and clean up after him and Art Thieme!) Don't worry, you'll figure it out.***smile***

Nearest I can figure it, and I'm pretty much just stumbling through the 'Cat's yard m'self--tramplin' toes and saying the wrong things--if this feels like a place you'd like to be, then here's where you belong. The door is never locked and the folks always have their arms outstretched to embrace another soul.

WELCOME!!!!!!

Yes, Mikal, there is something on the Mudcat for everyone. Anything from finding lyrics to obscure songs to lively discusions dealing with the difference between cookies and biscuits have been dealt with this past week or so. I am also a relative newcomer but have never been made to feel as at home anywhere else I have wandered. There are many fun loving folks here and there are also some "purists" that feel only music should be discussed on this board. The beauty of it is we ALL coexist here and enjoy each others thoughts. So, welcome and enjoy.

Mikal, Mikal, by now I guess you know how welcome you are here! Most of us just bask in the glow of those who make their living making music, and daydream about the day when we, too, could do the same. Meanwhile, the whole point of this kind of music is that it is for folks like you and me- for all of us! Great to have you here!

Hi, Michael, and all, I have been hanging around here for a couple of months. Every time I read one of these welcoming threads, it makes me realize how lucky I am to have found this wonderful, intelligent, and slightly warped bunch of people. **grin** Cheers, Teresa

SLIGHTLY WARPED? I'll have you know I've been working long and hard at my reputation and I know for a fact, (my wife has told me so) that I am MORE than just Slightly Warped. Please, give credit where credit is due. Thank You....

Okay. Now I know I'm in the right place. So I can hang up my Bodhran and join in the fun! Thanks folks. I't's nice to know that there are people like you out there!

And as to that slightly warped line...I'd take offence too! I've spent a lot of money on Guiness and drinks in Irish pubs. I think I would be really warped by now!

Yup! I is a drummer! I do strum mandolin, (very badly,) and tell stories, (they pays me for that!) But when the famly get's together, (two guitars, two fiddles, a (gasp,) banjo, and assorted string thingies,) sombody has to keep time! It could be worse, Uncle Joe, (my uncle,) wanted me to play bagpipes!

Nah, no "zen" stuff. Just reular rythum and a few rim shots.

Subject: RE: Am I in the right room, or on the wrong train
From: Mikal

Oh, and by the by, my Uncle Joe reffers to my drum as the emergency toilet, my own mother comments that the only reason I play drum is they don't let the poor kid play with anything sharp, and my brother insists the real use for the bodhran is to beat the player with it! Of course, Uncle Joe plays banjo, (you know those jokes,) Mom plays guitar, (and we tell her the real use for a guitar is to give those too dumb to starve any other way a chance to do it themselves, and Danny plays fiddle, (which is reffered to as the cat fight in a box!)

Catspaw, you need to go a long way farther than that to get to me!

Mikal, (besides, the Bodhran is a neat excuse to get another beer: Gotta moisten the head, you know...)

We shouldn't worry about ol' Mikal chiming in too often. If he is anything like that the bodrhan players I've played with, he won't know when to come in to the discussion.

Ah Mikal......My ortginal faith in you is restored! First you also play mandolin and I am the world's worst mandolin player! But better yet, you have searched some old threads and pulled up a goodie on What Got you started...one I've never known exactly how to respond to.

Great Job...obviously a 'Catter.

Mikal Welcome! I'm pretty new to this also. Glad you asked the guestion I was wondering, thanks. I've really learned a lot just reading the threads, makes me a better family folk singer. Kat, you shouldn't be cleaning up litter on your birthday! I know you're still young and can handle it. Again, Mikal, welcome.
