OK Richard I've added them to the list of useful things to bring - but wishful thinking on my part I'm afraid!

A pint or two of that punch, and I'm anybody's although what good I will then be or whether I will remember what to do or a thing afterwards is quite another question.

Oh, and with you Dilli it's not the ewes they are looking at: it's the tewes.

There wont be any daddy longlegs about in June. Last September was just an unlucky combination of factors.

1 Uncut grass.
2 Downpour on Wednesday / Thursday.
3 A week later than usual.
4 They must like TDL's music!

This could be the last Knockholt so let's make it one to remember.

I have been unable to secure leave for that week, but I am working on it.

The person who runs the farm, uncle has passed away. It is the uncle who actually owns the land. So we have to wait and see what will happen to the farm, who it has been left to etc.. before they can give us a decision on future Knockholts.

We don't think there is going to be a problem, but just in case we have identified other places which we can use.

Don't panic jusst yet ;-)

I know daddy long legs are harmless... I just don't like them, especially in huge numbers - thry give me the creeps. Still, quite rightly there shouldn't be any in June. We need loads of people to come, show the new landowner what he might be missing, if only in the way of camping fees !

Half the fun of Knockholt is knowing that you can pop back home, if you really need to, but don't unless you absolutely have to. We could have popped home last September, and been safe and warm, but we chose to sit in our awning, watching the lightening, and the rain roll around the North Downs.

I can't wait. Off to Fordcombe this weekend for our first camp out of the year, so looking forward to sitting around the fire and chilling out.

Doing Knockholt in a tent this year as we are selling our campervan.

If you fellows are so keen on all those sheep what is going to be left for us poor girls, just long legged beasties, daddy long legs seem to have a bad press on this thread. Should have been in spain with ellie and me when a cockroach just walked across the next table!! we decided that is one place we will not be eating again when the owner tried to squash it with a beer mat then put the mat back on the table. knockholt seems tame after that. Any volenteers to help me put my tent up if I decide to come solo this year Love and Hugs

More rain than sun :(

Youth + cider = bad idea.

Non-working Grottybotties, bad plan. Second consecutive year. Time to shout at the man who supplies them. State of at least one of them possibly related to someone's excess of alcohol over sense.

Bar excellent, comps to Linda and Debs. Such a shame one of the boxes of cider fell off.

Harmony workshop excellent, comps to Capella.

Food excellent, thank you Sue and assembled other cooks.

Guitar by Tony excellent.

Max respect to the young people who called themselves a folk-punk band. Not really enough bum notes for that. They were pretty good. I'd have called them acid-folk I think.

No melodeonboy. His shirts might have brightened up where the sun was not shining....

Have had discourse with Mick Foorde re bogs and youth/adult offenders. (Can't be specific as to who is guilty party(ies).Certainly there was underage drinking, smoking, alcohol abuse. Have agreed with him 4 loos next summer, three in September, and no free bar, as this is mostly the reason that many freeloaders turn up on Saturday. Otherwise,a great effort, and much enjoyed.

Subject: RE: Knockholt 2007
From: melodeonboy

No melodeonboy, indeed. My suspension went on the way home from work on Friday; well, actually the suspension on my car; my suspension is as good as ever! "'cos I'm built for comfort, I ain't built for speed, but I got everything that a good girl need" (That's enough B.B. King lyrics - Ed.).

I had to get towed back to Pikeyville and then spend Saturday getting the bloody thing repaired.

I shall be coming to Essex Girl's bash by train on Sunday, so surely nothing can go wrong??!!!

24 Jun 07 - 08:37 PM (#2085984)
Subject: RE: Knockholt 2007
From: Richard Bridge

PPS, one of the primary offenders on the alcoholic behaviour front is not technically under age to drink, and mostly the spliffies behave OK, and I wouldn't bother getting anally retentive about underage smokers. A couple of other idiots could be improved by brain transplants preferably without anaesthetic. Plenty of people got/get ratarsed without being offensive - Friday was lovely (weather permitting) and it would be a shame to lose that special Knockholt magic, and also a shame to drive away young people who do get an exposure to folk music (well, I did hear some) at Knockers by getting prissy at them.

I should also have given a major thumbs up to Jim for rescuing the Sat nite sing by stepping in with a firm hand on the stick and a grasp of the lyrical structure of some songs.... (see, I was listening even if I had disappeared to the vardo to get dry and warm).

Saturday... Well I usually go home on Saturday to avoid the chaos. I wish I had done this time!

Wednesday to Friday had a super time with great people.

I agree with Richard the problem was not with the teenagers but with a few adults that can't hold their drink, don't have any interest in folk music & don't have any respect for other performers. These people have nothing to do with folkmob they are I am told, friends of friends.

In addition to wht I have already posted, I must say that I had an excellent time Wednesday - Friday & saturday afternoon. Thanks for great music from John Barden, Richard Bridge, Tony (guitar) George (mandolin, Kevin (singer),Capella, Jim Radford, and all the others who contibuted. The harmony workshop was good. The beer in the Tally Ho was Excellent - Larkins 10/10 IPA 9/10 Black Sheep 9/10 That's from somebody who normally drinks lager!

TDFL, there were very few freeloaders this year on the Saturday, due to the weather. The bunch of women who caused the interruptions were p***ed before they arrived, the other drunks had been there for most of the weekend!!

I had a fun time. Thanks to the FOLKMOB who really do a sterling job in what can be adverse conditions (in more ways than one). Jamming with Tony and Woodsie was a highlight for me - thanks guys. But then again so was the whole weekend; the singers, most of the company, and being a 'caravanner' the weather didn't spoil my sleeping arrangements. Essex Girl's beer was excellent as was the Larkins at 'The Tally Ho'- I look forward to more for September. As for those who don't know how to hold their drink - they didn't bother me either, but perhaps being really noisy round their tents early next day may do the trick:-).
Well done all

Unfortunately this year was somewhat spoilt for quite a few people including myself and Pat who is the Chair of the Folk Mob by the irresponsible behaviour of a small minority.

I wouldn't like to see young people excluded from Knockholt but I do think that they are the responsibility of the adult that they are with and that they should monitor what they are doing/drinking! It is not the responsibility of the Folk Mob organisers who are there to have fun at something that's taken them a year to organise.

The noisy women that Linda refferred to have been barred from future events We don't even know who they are this is the second time they have turned up and caused problems I remember RB having a row with them a couple of years ago because of their behaviour. Also 1 certain young man has been given serious warnings. This is what happens when events have a free bar and people are incapable of knowing when to stop. We can all get merry as Richard said and not cause offence. I think that the people involved meant no harm they were just drunk, loud and obnoxious.

TDL I think the issue of a free bar and more toilets will be discussed at the next meeting I'm sure that it is for all the committe to decide on what happens next.

As one of the organisers I would like to apologise for any offence caused. I hope that Septembers Knockholt will be better as it a quieter event in any case.

The noisy "ladies" where I believe from the hospital,The most amusing thing about them was their trying to sing Ring a ring a rosy from a book totally missing out the courus but one of them trying to sing refrain at the end of the second verse! as that was what was printed in the book.I,ll second Richards thank you to Jim for his taking command.
Love to you all see you at Lindas

We may not know who the offensive women were, but, as it's the second time they turned up, have a very good idea who invited them, having overheard a telephone call, similar to the one made last year by the same person. Thanks for all your efforts once again. Here's to the next one.

Hi there.

A little late, but, then I am new to this Mudcat Thread thing!!

Just a few words to say how fantastic I thought Knockholt was!! It's the first year that I've been to it. Val has been trying to get me to turn up for the last two years!! Just a great atmosphere with some great, like minded people :-)

There was some great talent there:- singers; guitarists etc etc. What a way to spend a long weekend. I really enjoyed the chance of singing whilst standing by a log fire and looking at the stars!! The Harmony workshop was great and I am using what I was shown already.

As non-folkies, Rob the fire juggler and his lass, Vicky, said that they really enjoyed it and that they now saw us fokies in a different light (whatever that means). They asked me to say thanks for making them feel welcome (They also came to our event in Aylesford last weekend - perhaps I can turn them into folkies after all??!!). Thanks for making me welcome as well!

Haven't got a clue who anyones is re their Mudcat name, so many thanks to whoever organises the weekend. Keep up the good work - great!!

I usually remember faces (not names), but if you see me during the year at a festival - do come up and say hello :-)

Happy Festival going peeeps

Kev :-)

The Saturday night was somewhat dissapointing due to unnessesary
loudness and disrespect caused by non folk mob members who were invited. They were not all to blame ,One folk mob member who was pissed all day nearly fell on my guests guitar because he was so damned drunk he couldnt stand up.If he had smashed it there would have been hell to pay.
This behavior is not Knockholt if they wanna behave like that sod off to Glastonbury or Reading.Well done to Jim Radford who took control of the circle despite having people mauling and hanging all over him and interupting him during song. This kind of nonsense could really getout of hand and i suggest that concern should be shown for the future reguarding the above?

It's ok Pete it's all in hand. The offending people both lots have been banned and will not be at Knockholt in September.

The committe met last week and made this decision and also the decision that in future we will only make a nominal contribution to a bar in the form of a barrel of bitter and 1 of lager or some such beer. There will be no spirits provided! No more Knockholt Punch :-(

It's a shame so few have spoilt it for so many and made these decsions neccesary.

Let's not go overboard about this, eh? I think some of the biggest pissers brought their own (one at least I saw with litre bottles of cider) and by the end of Friday I could either play guitar or stand but not both at once, so it wasn't all down to invaders or juvies. The sinners I saw were the same bunch with whom I nearly got into a punch-up 3 or 4 years ago, and a certain young man (I think all know to whom I refer).

Knockholt without Debs south London leg-opener punch? Shame!

What about Friday night, was that not a super singaround? What about Wednesday and Thursday's beautiful weather what about Dave's sausages - I wouldn't miss it for all the tea in tescos!!!

There is a nonsense rumour, dating back donkeys years and I heard it mentioned this year at Knockholt that

1)Daddy longlegs are very poisionous spiders but there fangs are to small to bite humans,Really.

2)If you eat them then you will become very ill."Thanks for that Doctor.

3)That they have a nasty sting? ,RUBBISH.

There are two variaties of DADDY LONG LEGS.
The 1st is The Daddy long legs Mk 1(Harvest man)Round body 8.legs no spinners no web. (Veggie)Lives in long grass under logs.

The Daddy long legs MK 2.
Commonly known has

The Short Legged Daddy long legs(True

This is a spider with all the above and eats other insects and is found in cellers. toxiologists say there is no evidence re there venom is harmful to humans.Neither species stings.
So its all nonsense old wifes tales. etc.

I came across one poor lass at Knockholt who having heard this codswallop asked me to stand out side the porta loo while she had a whatever.Like I had now,t better to do? I told her not to be so daft and get on with it.

There,s another rumour that the Knockholt Sheep are so hungry they eat the MK1 Species in abundance,These Sheep after a while start to grow legs out the side of there bodies? More Folk Tales?

Richard Bridge. You asked at Knockholt about the Travelling Wilburys. To which my ears pricked up. I gave you a couple of verses of Tweeter and the Monkey Man. And you said "That sounds good?
I noticed on satalite channel 10 today an advertisment that The Travelling Wilburys have now rereleased there 1st and 2nd Albams has a double CD.
This is fantastic because after there 1st release back in the 80s after a couple of years, one could only get the 1st albam has a American import. The 1st albam is much better then the 2nd. I shall rush out and buy A.S.A.P. For those who have not heard The Wilburys it is a great Line up and the music on the 1st albam is classic. I need to replace my original Wilbury CD because I have worn it down to wafer thin solely because its a great Albam.

                        Musician,
                   Looking for Groupies

I recently went to Camden market and discovered that these shirts are at present in short supply but will be back in circulation in the next couple of weeks hopefully in time for Knockholt 2.Sept.

The only color at present available is in bright pink for godsake,s so I left Camden empty handed.I shall return to camden again in a couple of weeks and if I find the above shirt in any decent colour in your size I will pick you one up an bring it to Knockholt in Sept. I have had a number of orders for this T Shirt,so I have not forgotten.

What are the laws for burning off retail CDs on too blank cds Re,Music and passing them on to friends for free?
I have been told this infringes copy write laws and other laws and is illegal.I do not wish to break the law but have a built in programe, toast, on the Apple Mac computer I have just perchased? Im some what baffled?

Subject: RE: Knockholt 2007

Yes, it's an infringement of copyright (UK), although following a recent review of the law of copyright the government is considering creating a "private use" or "format shifting" exemption - but even if it does it won't cover making copies for friends.

I got the Apple Mac because its great for Music it comes with a double Garage Band CD which is far better then anything I have ever found on Windows. Build up your own Loops and away you go.Every instument under the sun every type of music you can imagine. I burned of a copy of something I created this afternoon in country bluegrass i then run it into Itunes and burned it off and the sound is excellent.

Thanks for the above advice. I stick to burning off me own music.

Re the size.

if you think XL is no good for you then I am sure I can pass The T shirt on to another Folk Mob club member has they are a popular shirt.

If you want me to hang on to it for you untill September Knockholt thats not a problem.I can think of no other way of getting it to you?

I am pleased to say that the Hidious Pink ones were not in stock.I am equally surprised ,they had sold out.
