BS: Gizmo's farewell to her innards!

Sorry about not combining threads, bit busy today... but Gizmo just sent me a message - after humming and hahing about ovarian cysts, yesterday they decided to operate and removed an inflamed appendix.

Hopefully this means she'll be back with us soon and squeaking away like a good'un.

I just posted that to the other thread too Liz...we cross posted!!

I really hope that she files a complaint against the hospital, the appendix could have been removed last week when she was admitted.

Rest and heal well Nicci

Take care, see you soon

Sounds like a good name for a pipe tune, which I suppose in a way it is!
Methinks she won't be too happy with the hospital service.
Recover soon girl, and remember, it only hurts when you laugh ;)

I'm glad it's a separate thread-- getting news amidst best wishes, I missed LtS's updates in the other thread for several days till I caught on that we might not get news from Gizmo herself.

So sometimes a separate thread DOES make sense, when the story moves into a new "era," and I am very glad for her and wish her the best recovery possible!

I've been in the hospital enough recently that it gives me the willies just to hear that someone else is going through that kind of hell, so Gizmo certainly has my sympathies. I hope modern medicine has improved enought that a removed appendix only requires a short stay in the hospital. Get well soon.

If they were able to remove it laparoscopically, recovery should be relatively swift. I'm sure the relief will help significantly.

Hopefully Gizmo will be home either today or tomorrow to recover from the surgery. I know she appreciates all the good wishes. Hopefully she will be able to post to the thread soon.

This thread title almost REQUIRES that a rousing fiddle tune [or other instrument of choice] be composed for the occasion.

Excellent news.

It is better, though, if surgeons are fairly certain of what needs doing before romping about with scalpels in one's innards. Sounds like they did right, to me, except for the first idiot who sent her home with pain pills and blamed it all on 'female troubles'. It wouldn't surprise me if his stupid and likely sexist diagnosis delayed other doctors from coming to a firm conclusion, as they likely had to consider the first diagnosis.

Thank goodness! Took them long enough.

They ought to throw in a free appendectomy for that first doctor, too. Old-school, with whiskey and a bullet to bite for the pain.

Glad to hear they finally got the problem pinned down properly and are now doing something about it.

Get well soon, Nicci, I wish you a speedy recovery.

Best wishes,

Bente

I was literally about to leave the house when I got Nicci's message and couldn't wait to find the original thread. I did nick the title from a tune - 'Mike Mullin's farewell to his breakfast' and tweaked it a little - it seemed appropriate!

A few slight changes to the chorus of "Farewell To the Gold":

Farewell to the innards that never they found,
Good-bye to my appendix that somewhere is bound,
For it's only when dreaming that I see them steaming
Down in the dark, deep underground.

Just be careful with the hormone replacments.

They can cause strokes in high doses.

Thanks Rapaire, I could have done without the imagery of a steaming appendix first thing in the morning. Nearly lost my breakfast ('s OK, I caught it just in time).

10 years ago my daughter walked into hospital to have an appendectomy, had it done laparoscopically, and walked out 8 hours later (after the anaesthetic wore off). Should be a doddle.

Speedy recovery, Nicci.

And a lesson mot to ignore persistent bouts of pain - if you have pain, something needs medical attention.

That's a bit like the old saw about death being nature's way of telling you to slow down!"
