Hi

there hasn't been an accordion thread out recently so I thought I best start one.

I wondered about setting up an accordion concert chain. What this would mean is where ever you travel there will be a list of accordionist who live nearby, you could then get together and if you give enough time advance notice you could do a concert and say a workshop teaching them your favorite tune, to earn your board & door takings (dependiong on size of gig) You could also work on some duets to perform at the concerts.

When I say travel I mean travel, the world is your oyster, that is aslong as you can get a contact, which is where mudcat comes in.

So what do you think? sheer madness or is there a practicale interesting idea?

the term 'accordions' includes button & piano accordions, melodion and concertina

I don't think "thine accordions" is correct. You can use "thy" for singulr or plural, I think. I also think "thine" is used in the accusative case. "Steal my doubloons, and I will steal thine!". "Then I will, braggart thou art!! Where are thy doubloons?".

Open to debate, on this one.

Oh, hell! I take it back. It has nothing to do with grammar -- it's phonemic. From the Am Her dict:

thine (Zhn) pron. used with a sing. or pl. verb 1. Used to indicate the one or ones belonging to thee. adj. A possessive form of thou 1 1. Used instead of thy before an initial vowel or h: "The presidential candidates are practicing the first rule of warfare: know thine enemy" Eleanor Clift [ Middle English from Old English thhn; See tu- in Indo-European Roots.]

Oh, man... what are all you goof-ball pedants trying to accomplish, talking about punctuation, grammar, and phonemics (?) on a beautiful accordion thread like this one? For shame, all of you. Go away, or learn to play the accordion. (Really, the nerve of some people... )

Hey Sam... I think it's a great idea. I'm not up to performance level yet, and I don't know anyone in my immediate area who is. But I am very interested to learn more about this idea of yours.

Accordions. Grammar. Not a hard choice. Grammar it is.

Yes, as it was pointed out, you use "thine" before a vowel and "thy" before a consonant (like "a" and "an" -- remember those?).

Spot-on on capitalizing "Pedantic" when it starts the closing.

Great thread - accordions and grammar are my favourite subjects in the world. Really good idea to get a chain of concerts going round - like Carol, I can't do it myself yet, but I'd love to be a part of it, hope it comes off. From an accordion-playing Linguistics student x PS If titles of academic courses shouldn't have a capital letter, I'm going to look pretty stupid. I suppose the difference between them is pretty academic (ha ha ha!!)

Sam, I think it's a good concept, but what about security? I have seen books and articles on privacy urging people not to link their real names, addresses, and phone numbers on the Internet?

I don't know the answer, but it's something to think about.

On the other hand, I think it's time for people who love traditional music to start doing their own publicizing. The traditional information sources (newspapers, radio, tourist bureaus) are so prejudiced against trad that it's swimming upstream to get any co-operation from them.

sam, are you suggesting accordion mooching? why not just open up a case on the sidewalk. as for myself i doing a reel for free on the great wall of china tomorrow on a little Hohner one row I picked up in Khobar, Saudi Arabia. how's that for international.
