Can anyone help me with the lyrics to "Ballad of Francis Gary Powers"? I tried to transcribe them but couldn't understand one part. HELP...

BALLAD OF FRANCIS GARY POWERS
(Red River Dave)

In a lonesome prison cell in darkest Russia.
There's a flyer; Francis Powers is his name.
He was captured on a mission for his country.
And he'll never see old glory wave again.

CHORUS
When the clouds are hanging high above the Kremlin.
And the moonbeams, many happy memories bring.
There's a Star-Spangled Banner waving somewhere.
That's the song the Russian Jailers hear him sing.

In a lonesome prison cell in Godless Russia
When all __________ speaks his precious name.
There's a boy who flew the U2 for his country.
To make sure that no Pearl Harbor comes again.

When the clouds are hanging high above the Kremlin.
And the moonbeams, many happy memories bring.
There's a Star-Spangled Banner waving somewhere.
Waving o'er the land of heroes brave and true.

When the clouds are hanging high above the Kremlin.
And the moonbeams, many happy memories bring.
There's a Star-Spangled Banner waving somewhere.
That's the song the Russian jailers hear him sing.

Powers was less than two years in Russian captivity

Nonetheless I wish you that you'll get the complete lyrics.

Guest,

Do you know who composed this song?

Please excuse the questions as I am sure you were hoping to find answers instead, But I am curious as to the origin of this song.

My mother is a Powers, and my Grandfather Charles W. Powers formerly of Wise, Kentucky is supposedly a direct relation to Gary Powers.

My mother would dearly love to get the words to this one. Once a year there is a family re-union in Wise, but she has never made it down there to discuss this or Gary Powers.

By the way, you wouldn't happen to be a Powers would you?

Just Curious, And since this is the internet I wouldn't expect you to answer unless you desired to.

I would like to add this song to my collection of ballads. I collect ballads and folk music and play flatpick guitar and 5 string banjo.

Dewey

I'm sorry I didn't mention I am not a Powers. I help people find music and lyrics. I had this request and tried to transcribe the lyrics but couldn't understand all the words so I thought Mudcatters could help me and they did. What a wonderful group of music lovers.
