Subject: RE: Chord Req: Depth of My Ego (Matt McGinn) From: Jack Campin Date: 13 Oct 09 - 08:36 AM There are no chords in the book - McGinn sang unaccompanied and wouldn't have known anything about chords. But looking at the tune, it seems to be nothing but D minor all the way through except for a dominant on the upbeat to the last note of the verse and chorus. Which would suit if you think of it as a stark, chant-like song. On the other hand you could probably make some very complicated jazz-ballad-style arrangement work, but if you were trying to do that you wouldn't be asking. |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Depth of My Ego (Matt McGinn) From: Gingerbeardman Date: 13 Oct 09 - 09:09 PM Ha. No, I don't think I'm going for a jazzy reworking, I'm just trying to work something out on guitar to resemble the version on mattmcginn.info, which is accompanied. Thanks for the suggestion. Knowing very little music theory, my guess is that A is the appropriate dominant for Dm? Those two chords seem to fit but I'm not sure where to go from there. Anyone got any ideas for more than 2 chords for this song? |
