FSGW 2009 Clip # 26--Sunday Concert--Richard and Hils sing "Blessed Quietness".

A remarkable rendition of an English hymn, syncopated in two beautiful English voices by Richard and MGAS (Hils).

Amos-

I believe there is a typo in your date for Barry Finn singing "Salonika"; it appears to be "2009" rather than "2008." It's either that or Barry and Big Mick don't bother changing their clothes from one year to another.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

Big Mick did not attend the 2009 Getaway, Charlie--and "Salonika" was not among my clips. I believe the recording of "Salonika" was uploaded by Genie using the rubric WildeNotesMusic from the 2008 Getaway, as labeled, but uploaded in mid-2009.

Well, I've been itching to add my thanks to FSGW for holding the Getaway and the fantastic welcome that Richard and I received from you wonderful Folks!!!

So sorry for the delay, although we got back home on the 7th, we were pretty jet-lagged and had a quick turnaround to get to Banbury Festival on Friday. Got home again late on Sunday, worked yesterday & today and I'm just starting to catch up with stuff.

We had an unforgettable time meeting so many good new friends, hearing so much great music and song. There's no way that we could list our high points, the whole weekend was magical and full of 'tingly' moments. I missed saying goodbye to so many people, but I've a feeling that I didn't get to meet and hug everyone properly either, time passed in such a blur!

Huge thanks to Nancy for giving me the chance to sing some songs and to all the FSGW committee and all the willing volunteers who helped to organise and make the weekend work so well.

Singing with Claire was wonderful, and the 5 minute workshop was great fun too - special thanks to Charlie for allowing me to get that Girlie Act together at the Sunday concert. There are a few people who have my homespun CD, so if you'd like to have a copy burnt or if anyone wants words of any of the songs I sang just PM me! Many thanks for all your kind words, you've made me blush *grin*

Amos, your video downloads are just wonderful, thank you so much for the time and trouble you've taken to share those memories! Whenever I get a minute I'm getting caught up on all the stuff I missed!

Richard did lots of videoing, but at the moment we can't download to the PC, only to the DVD recorder & burn DVD from there - I think the PC firewire is *$*!! Does anyone know if DVD's burnt in the UK can be played on US machines?? I'm not a techie, so please don't blind me with science....

Everyone's encouragement of Richard's singing has given him much more confidence and inspired him to put his name down for the concerts. I really hope he will continue now that we're back in the UK - but you'll be welcome anytime kendall, your kind words have meant so much to Richard!

Lovely to meet you all, it would be wonderful if we could Get-away again one day. Should any of you get across this side of the pond, please PM me, we'd love for you to visit!!

Hil & Richard

Among all these recordings, did anyone record Pete Kraemer and me doing our number in the evening concert? Since the arrangement was pretty much made up on the spot, I'm wondering if it worked or not.

I too was surprised to see the dog. Don't know whose pet he was. Always in the past (at previous camps) pets have been specifically prohibited. I don't see anything on West River's web site about pets, so I don't know what their official policy is. This dog was reasonably well-behaved (though there were a few barking instances), but I would have been happier not to have him there. I guess it was his sniffing around the late-night snack tables that made me uncomfortable...

In general, dogs are not a good idea at events like this...too many ways things can go wrong. And if they are allowed, it is only a matter of time until the wrong one arrives...or TWO who don't like each other.

HE was a fine looking dog, and well-mannered and hospitable. I would not have banned him, myself, unless it was a Methodist requirement.

Well, it seems a lot of old sea dogs have been allowed at the Getaway for years. To ban the landlubber dogs, is that ethnic discrimination?

Oh, and, Amos, word around these parts (Pac NW) is that that Ingerson feller is a dancin' fool (and so is his wife Kathleen).

my old retriever Dave

Good Lord, he don't behave
Oh, Children hold him still
Keep him still, I want to keep him still
Oh children hold him still
Or the suds o'er me he'll shake

I have to admit that it never occurred to me to question the presence of the dog. He was quite an ornament to the Peace Cabin sessions, and a few barks during the concerts didn't bother me. I can see Bill D's point, however.

I thought the dog's rattling chain was a bit distracting during the workshops, but since I brought my own distraction (albeit a human one) I wasn't sure I had the right to complain.

Some people do have allergies, though, and don't come to the Getaway expecting to be confronted with them.

HA! *I* waltzed with KT in the back of the room during the concert...(or what passed for waltzing, since that's only about the 4th time I ever pretended to waltz with anyone.)

With KT, even my inexperienced feet surpassed themselves and I avoided looking totally foolish.

(Thanks KT)
