Nice to see all the words, Bainbo. The Chester in the writers credits was 'Cheerful Charlie Chester' wartime comedian with 'Stand Easy' and with a later career as a Sunday evening DJ.
Any one remember 'The master criminal of all time, Whippet Quick' and 'Ray Ling, the chinese fence' ?

I once had the great privilege of interviewing Clinton Ford, one of the writers of this, backstage at a big country music festival in the late 1980s - he was there because he had a hit with Old Shep about three hundred years ago. He was an absolutely charming, witty and engaging interviewee, even though he was so nervous he went through a whole pack of my cigarettes, and then he won over a crowd of 8,000 over by walking onstage and saying - "before anyone asks... no, I'm not singing 'Fanlight Fanny'!"   

He retired to run a hotel in the Isle of Man, I think, but I hear it was unsuccessful... and I was sorry to see from Wikipedia that apparently the guy is now bedridden somewhere. He'll be 78 now.

Great guy.

The Electropathics recorded this on our album "Batteries not included". Charlie Chester had a show on Radio 2 and used to play the track quite often. I suspect he got more royalties from it being played than we ever saw!

I imagine that some of our friends across the Atlantic ,in the colonies,might be somewhat alarmed by the idea of a musician being called "Clinton Ford " !!
