Subject: RE: Kate Wolf From: open mike Date: 04 Aug 02 - 02:02 PM you might find the site of the "monitor.net" connected to the kate wolf memorial music festival put on by cumulus production the last weekend of june. any search should bring This up. can't find the URL right now.. THIS YEARS' FESTIVAL WAS ATTENDED BY 2,000+ She was a wonderful songwriter, and there are two song books out with her material. "Give Yourself to Love" is her most popular/ famous song. She wrote from the heart and said things that many others can agree with, she put them to words so well. She recorded nearly a dozen albums i think, and used to host a radio show on KPFA in the San Francisco bay aREA (EAST BAY-BERKELEY)IN THE 70'S. MANY NATURE IMAGES ARE IN HER WORKS-- HAWKS SOARING, SUNSETS, TALL PINE TREES, ETC. She had leukemia and passed away almost 15 years ago. Her family continues to keep her music available, and her extended family consists of many wonderful friends. the festival is like a big (hippie) family reunion. It used to be held in a vinyard near Occidental, CA, but out grew that spot and has been held for the last coupple of years at Black Oak Ranch, "The Hog Farm" near Laytonville. She was one inspiring woman!! this year's festival featured, among other things, a live taping of West Coast Live, which was broadcast on july 27 or 28, and can be found in the archives of Sedge Thompson's West Coast Live radio site. This URL also escapes me, but i hope you can find it!! Her accompanist, Nina Gerber, is an outstanding guitar player, producer and joins in with most of the artists who perform at the festival-she is a wonder woman of the guitar! |

Subject: RE: Kate Wolf From: GUEST Date: 05 Aug 02 - 05:30 AM I've said this before on other threads, but I will repeat myself since this is a Kate Wolf thread. My grandson, Devon, was born eight weeks premature, only four pounds. Had to spend a month in the hospital, and when he got out had to wear oxygen and a heart monitor. He did very well at home, and his condition improved steadily. Being so physically challenged, Devon was fussier than most babies. When he cried, and we couldn't console him, we put Kate Wolf on the stereo. I shit you not, it quieted him every time. PP&M, Jackson Browne, etc. had no effect. But putting on any of Kate Wolf's albums had an immediate soothing effect. He quit crying every time. Damndest thing I ever saw. Guest, Visitor- Your interest in Kate Wolf is well placed. IMO, you obviously have a good sense of music. You ought to consider joining the Mudcat. There is an incredible amount of information here, free for the asking. Thanks, BlueJay |

Subject: RE: Kate Wolf From: Genie Date: 05 Aug 02 - 01:15 PM Guest, I'm not surprised your grandson responded to Kate's music that way. One of the first things that struck me when I first heard a tape of her music was what a soothing voice she had. Mudjack and Nancy, thanks for the offer re the tape. Land, thanks for the link. I'll check out buying a copy. Genie |
