Subject: Just Gotta Crow!! From: jeffp Date: 02 Aug 00 - 10:33 AM Forgive the horn-blowing, but I just can't help myself. I just returned from Irish Week at the Augusta Heritage Center in Elkins, WV, where I studied fiddle with James Kelly. Last year when I was there, I took the Beginning Fiddle class with an excellent young fiddler named Brendan Callahan. Watch out for this kid, because he is destined for greatness. Anyway, last year I gave him a copy of a tune I wrote about 15 years ago. He was nice about it and said he was impressed. Well, this year he came up to me and told me he had played my tune at a gig in Philadelphia this spring! I feel validated as a budding tunesmith. Just had to share it with you guys. By the way, the tune was "The Rebel's Fancy," which is in the Mudcat Songbook and on Alan's MIDI site. jeffp |

Subject: RE: Just Gotta Crow!! From: Pseudolus Date: 02 Aug 00 - 10:39 AM That's awesome!! It's one thing to have someone say that they enjoyed your song when YOU played it, but to like it enough to include it intheir own set is quite the compliment......congrats! Frank |

Subject: RE: Just Gotta Crow!! From: Shanti Date: 02 Aug 00 - 10:42 AM Congratulations! Crow away! If I heard someone sing or play something I'd written, I'd be patting myself on the back so hard, I'd probably break my arm!

Subject: RE: Just Gotta Crow!! From: Liz the Squeak Date: 02 Aug 00 - 03:50 PM Hey, well done! Now all you have to do is give it a couple of years on the circuit and sure as eggs is chicken ovulations, someone will introduce it as traditional - THAT is when you do the internal trumpet tooting, such a great feeling.... happened to me with a ballad I wrote about 14 years ago - someone sang it back to me as a traditional Dorset song, and I laughed myself sick!!! Of course, I can't remember it word for word, neither can I track down a copy, but someone else, out there knows it.... Ahhhhh. LTS |
