Subject: RE: UK: Barrow on Humber Eurogather April 30 From: Wilfried Schaum Date: 28 May 04 - 06:11 AM Dave - what a pity! But photographers seem to share the same fate as the daylight in Greenland: seldom seen. You should send in a small collection of your pictures, where MudGuard can be seen, considering the fine pictures he took from you. You owe him this, I think. Linda - nag him till he does it! Subject: RE: UK: Barrow on Humber Eurogather April 30 From: Wilfried Schaum Date: 31 May 04 - 07:01 AM Hi folks, finally I found it again, on a crumpled sheet, in a corner of my satchel: A Rather Silly Lullaby Flow gently, sweet Humber deprived of any elks, sing me into slumber with the help of your whelks. I don't care for their number, fifty seven or nine; sing me into slumber, with me it is fine. Be proud, mighty Humber, to be not so narrow and lick all the outskirts of the village of Barrow. So flow on, sweet Humber, and flap to the shore, sing me into slumber with a Mudcat folklore. (the snoring contest MudGuard vs. Wilfried ended even; Saturday Wilfried 1 point, Sunday MudGuard 1 point) |

Subject: RE: UK: Barrow on Humber Eurogather April 30 From: YorkshireYankee Date: 31 May 04 - 12:34 PM Well, Oaklet... I'm feeling quite neglected now! You complimented Wilfried on his song, but you didn't mention *my* song -- even though it mentions *you* all over the place! Humph! I'm pouting now... ;-p |

Subject: RE: UK: Barrow on Humber Eurogather April 30 From: Wilfried Schaum Date: 31 May 04 - 12:44 PM Oaklet, my dear driver of veteran treasures - thanks a lot for your appraisal. YorkshireYankee - I'd be the first to utter my praise of your song in writing (I did it verbally after hearing it, I'm sure), but I didn't find it in this thread. Please publish it here or give me a link. Cheerio Wilfried |

Subject: RE: UK: Barrow on Humber Eurogather April 30 From: Oaklet Date: 31 May 04 - 01:16 PM Good though it was, Wilfried's poem cannot even hope to gain permission within this current millennium to qualify to sniff the bottom of YY's seminal opus with me in it. There. |

Subject: RE: UK: Barrow on Humber Eurogather April 30 From: Oaklet Date: 31 May 04 - 01:24 PM Right - this is from memory and should be sung (as I do) to the tune of "On Ilkla Moor Bah T'at... Where hast tha been sin I saw thee? (Sin I saw thee) With Oaklet and Mudcat Where hast tha been sin I saw thee? (Sin I saw thee) Where hast tha been sin I saw thee? (Sin I saw thee) With Oaklet and Mudcat With Oaklet and Mudcat With Oaklet and Mudcat Barrow on Humber really swings (It really swings!) With Oaklet and Mudcat... Visit Hull's famous "curry ship" ("curry ship"!) With Oaklet and Mudcat... Tha'll die of eating curried whelks (curried whelks!) With Oaklet and Mudcat... Then whelks will come & et thee up (they'll et thee up!) With Oaklet and Mudcat... All only 57 quid! With Oaklet and Mudcat... Three cheers for Greg and Eric too! (& Eric too!) With Oaklet and Mudcat... I hope I have remembered it ok... Grand stuff |

Subject: RE: UK: Barrow on Humber Eurogather April 30 From: Oaklet Date: 31 May 04 - 01:34 PM What I didn't say was YY's song will shortly be offered to Buena Vista studios as a spec feature-film potentially starring Daniel Day Lewis, Sting and Linda Lusardi. All the artist's respective agents have demanded a (returnable) fee for the option. They wouldn't do this if the artists thought the idea was pants. Me old mate Linda is up for my part. This is a bit ironic, as I am usually up when I think of most of hers. |

Subject: RE: UK: Barrow on Humber Eurogather April 30 From: Wilfried Schaum Date: 31 May 04 - 02:05 PM Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears! I've come not to bury but to praise. A really lovely song, YY, and it merits to be produced as a spec film. May I ask for a small part in it? |

Subject: RE: UK: Barrow on Humber Eurogather April 30 From: Susanne (skw) Date: 31 May 04 - 06:14 PM Vicky, sorry to be so quiet on the subject, but I thought the song great even when you first sang it. It added (if possible at all) greatly to the hilarity of the Hull Eurogathering, and deservedly featured Oaklet as among the foremost Hull Mudcat whelks. However - as us Scots would say - Wilfried's poem was no bad at a either! (And one of these days I'll get round to posting those two songs I dared to sing at the gathering to be added, for anyone who's interested, to the Low German section of the DT.) |

Subject: RE: UK: Barrow on Humber Eurogather April 30 From: YorkshireYankee Date: 02 Jun 04 - 12:31 PM Goodness, I wasn't expecting a response from so many quarters! (I'm blushing now!) Oaklet, all is forgiven... I was *most* impressed and gratified by your total and flawless recall of all the words ;-), and your comment about Buena Vista Sudios made me laugh out loud! (my husband always has to come find out what I'm reading when that happens.) Now, down to brass tacks: the offer from Buena Vista *sounds* good, but I'm a bit wary -- have they said who they have in mind to play the whelks? After all, that's really the *most* important part(s)... Wilfried, how would you feel about playing a whelk? (Remember, there are no "small parts", only small actors.) Susanne, thanks for your kind words as well, and you're right about Wilfried's poem/lullabye -- a sterling effort! (If I could produce something *half* as good in German, I would be absolutely delighted!) Cheers, YY |
