Subject: RE: The 12th of July From: Felipa Date: 12 Jul 20 - 06:15 PM There are a lot of interesting lyrics on this thread (saving it from the BS section) A few months ago, the Orange Order cancelled this year's parades because of the health crisis. But now that restrictions are eased and gatherings of up to 30 people are allowed, individual bands are planning to march separately in various areas. The idea is that people should stay in their own gardens or by their own front doors and let the bands come to them. In some areas there are competitions for the best house front and garden decorations and displays, a way to keep up the morale and encourage people to stay home. Bonfires are still a bone of contention. And many people in the Loyalist community are feeling rebellious due to the controversy over the handling of the recent funeral of an ex-IRA man Bobby Story (too complex to go into details here, but complaints have come from the moderate Nationalist SDLP and the Alliance party, not just from harder line Unionists and Loyalists). |

Subject: RE: The 12th of July From: Tattie Bogle Date: 12 Jul 20 - 07:31 PM And today, when I open my laptop, up comes a message on the screensaver page to say it's July 12th, Battle of the Boyne. Why? it doesn't give me similar messages when it's the anniversary of Culloden, Prestonpans, Jutland, Bosworth, Agincourt, Hastings, etc? |
