Will someone please help me with info about a song that my boss has been trying for days to recall? All he can remember is something about "My Marie" or "Sweet Marie" and "Cry a little cry for me" or "Cry a little tear for me". I think it was released sometime in the 60s or 70s. THANK YOU!!!

I have been so amazed by how much music knowledge you all have!!! I am hoping that one of you can help me remember the name of the song involving "[my/sweet] Marie" and "cry a little [cry/tear] for me". Ring a bell with anyone? Or is my boss mistaken in his recollections?

Hi, Bunni - This is the one I was thinking of, but I thought it also had a verse about "cry a little tear for me, my Marie." Can't find it, so maybe it's a common misunderstanding.
Anybody else have an idea? Hank Snow and Country Joe McDonald recorded songs called "Sweet Marie." Could you be thinking of a mix of several "Marie" songs.

Now, the other "Marie" song that comes to mind is this one. I know it from the 1965 recording by the Bachelors, and I was surpised to learn it was written by Irving Berlin and published in 1928. Early recordings by Rudy Vallee and by Tommy Dorsey.

You were absolutely right on your first try. My boss got that nostalgic, dreamy look in his eyes as soon as I started playing "Smile a Little Smile for Me". And, after hearing the song, I became a fan as well! I truly appreciate all your help. I'm just sorry I can't help you more with all of YOUR inquiries. Commercially produced fakebooks often include only the most familiar of popular songs, "standards" and family favorites. The lyrics shown for those songs are not always complete. The written music and the guitar chords shown are minimal, at best; but they are usually close enough to be useful.

Glad you asked about that song, BTW. It is one of my favorites also.

Just type in "www.Come to me Sweet Marie" and click GO... several sites have all the words to that old song. My Mom sang that to me in the 40's

Its Rosemarie, not my Marie. Marie is a different song.
