CRADLE TO GRAVE
(Michael Marino)

On me way out the door to work
Me mum cries, "Don't forget to shave!"
Ah, yes, one must be clean-shaven
To be a good and willing slave --

For that's what we are to the boss,
And that's why we get paid:
They accept they have to pay us;
We accept that we're enslaved.

All your life, your time is someone else's
From the cradle to the grave,
You can accept it if you are yellow,
Else get squashed for being brave.

Me mates and I were crazy fellows:
"We shall be free!" -- that's what we craved.
But the strikes all came to nothing,
Because our union bosses caved.

And so we hopped on the socialist ticket,
And many are stuck there to this day:
And they remain their master's minions,
Although they get a little "union pay".

To dump this excess population,
War was called for by the State:
They told us to do our duty:
"Just obey. That would be great!"

Me mates and I burned our draft cards,
But they shipped us, wave after wave:
Sent to the bloody frontlines,
Straight from the cradle to the grave.
