Fried mush was something her Georgia-raised mother made for the family, and Caroline loathed it, possibly because she knew it was mostly an economical way to use up yesterday's left-over breakfast. Maybe it was the Karo syrup that killed it for her. They never had real maple syrup in those depression times.
