Joe Offer Scout Songbooks Index PermaThread (67* d) Index: Boy Scout songbook (U.S., 1963) 18 Jan 05

This is the 1963 edition I had when I was in Boy Scouts. It claims to have 150 songs - the old edition plus 50 new ones. I also have a 1995 printing of the 1970 edition, but I don't think any of the songs are different.

I'm Happy When I'm Hiking
In a cavern, in a canyon

Now the day is done
Now the Day Is Over
O beautiful for spacious skies
O bury me not on the lone prairie
O Chester
O Come All Ye Faithful
O Dad O' Mine
Oh give me a home where the buffalo roam
Oh! How Hate to Get Up in the Morning
Oh! set the campfire burning
Oh, Susanna
Oh, won't you come with me
Oh! you push the damper in
Old Mother Hubbard went to the cupboard
Once a jolly swag man
One Finger, One Thumb
One Man Went to Mow
On foot I gaily take my way, tra la la la la la
On My Honor

There aloft in a soft and friendly breeze
There are snakes
There's a church in the valley by the wildwood
There's a Long, Long Trail
There's Something About a Boy Scout
There was an old man named Michael Finnegan
The Sons of the prophet were hardy and bold

We're All Together Again, We're Here
We're Boy Scouts of America, on the land, on the lakes, on the sea
We're Here for Fun
We're on the Upward Trail
We're the Boy Scouts of America
Were you ever in Quebec, stowing timber on the deck?
What's the Matter With...
When Israel was in Egypt's land
When the Saints Go Marching In
When you come to the end of a Boy Scout day
Where, oh where, oh where is Susie?
Work for the Night Is Coming

Yawning in the Morning
Y'heave ho! my lads, the wind blows free
Yodeling song
You Can Dig My Grave
You Can Tell a Scout
You gotta jump down

I'm sorry, but I don't like this anywhere as much as I like the Girl Scout songbooks. I used to do song workshops at Scout training sessons, but the Powers That Be always pushed me to teach songs from the Scout Songbook. It was no secret that I didn't like the Boy Scout Songbook. Look at all the good songs they changed into Boy Scout propaganda songs.
